These guidelines are in place to help create a safe environment on all social media channels run by Cumbria Constabulary. The aim of our social media channels is to create an environment where our communities can engage safely in debate and are free to make comments, questions and suggestions. We ask that anyone engagi

ng with our social media channels shows courtesy, kindness and respect for all other members of our social media communities. In order to help create this safe environment we have set out some guidelines which apply to any engagement with us or other members of the community on any of our social media channels. Comments must not:

•Contain spam, be defamatory of any person, deceive others, be obscene, offensive, threatening, abusive, hateful, inflammatory or promote s*xually explicit material or violence.
•Promote discrimination based on race, s*x, religion, nationality, disability, s*xual orientation or age.
•Breach any of the terms of any of the social media platforms themselves.
•Be off-topic, irrelevant or unintelligible.
•Contain any advertising or promote any services. Breach of guidelines

•We reserve the right to determine, at our discretion, whether contributions to our social media channels breach our guidelines.
•We reserve the right to hide or delete comments made on our channels, as well as block users who do not follow these guidelines.
•We also reserve the right to make a copy of any comments we deem appropriate for investigation as we feel necessary or is required for criminal justice purposes.

A flag raising ceremony took place at the Old Town Hall today in preparation for Armed Forces Day.

The ceremony was attended by the local council, members of the public, veterans and service personnel from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force.

Armed Forces Day celebrates the service, contribution and dedication of veterans and serving members from all branches of the armed forces, with events planned across the country.

There will be an event held on Saturday 27/06/2026 outside the Old Town Hall, With many different organisations, charities and groups attending with stalls, displays and military vehicles.

Officers from your Neighbourhood Policing Team will also be attending, so come and say hello.

UPDATE: London Road has now been reopened.

Police were called at 7:55am this morning 22 June 2026, to reports of a double decker bus on fire on London Road, Carlisle.
London Road is currently closed in both directions.
Please avoid the area and find alternative routes to travel this morning.

Officers from the Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out high visibility patrols in Carlisle city centre today, providing reassurance to residents, businesses and visitors.

With Carlisle Market taking place in the city centre, officers have been engaging with members of the public, offering crime prevention advice and ensuring everyone can enjoy the day safely.

Neighbourhood Policing is beyond a 9 to 5.

This evening officers from your Neighbourhood Policing team were on mobile patrol in their area looking for suspicious activity relating to drugs and burglary, two key priorities you raised to us, when the below vehicle caught their eye. A significant pursuit later and with the assistance of our colleagues from the Fi****ms Support Group the vehicle was uplifted for having no insurance, being in a dangerous condition and failing to stop for Police. The owner can expect correspondence in the post and a lovely afternoon out with a magistrate in the not too distant future.

Last weekend we acted on reports of illegal off road bikes being used in the area of Kershope Forrest. We attended and utilised our Drone to locate the bikes and speak to the riders.

This is a persistent problem for Forestry England. They say;

"Unless quads are being ridden legally on a public right of way or a highway in the nation's forests, it's Illegal, dangerous and damaging. It can seriously hurt people, harms wildlife and natural habitats, and can damage our forest roads and tracks which we have to repair. All this creates unnecessary pressure on the limited resources we have to care for the nation’s forests.

If caught, people can have points added to their licence and have their vehicles seized.

We need everyone to treat the forests, and people visiting, with respect and play their part in protecting these important places for everyone."

We are committed to working with partner agencies to tackle the problems that matter to every community.

Once again I'd like to extend my thanks to Wigton COOP for allowing us to hold a Police Desk in their store. As the Neighbourhood Policing Team representative responsible for Wigton and West Rural (Dalston, Great Orton, Burgh-by-Sands, Kirkbride, Wigton, Thursby and Caldbeck), I hold these desks every four months in Wigton and Dalston. The months in between I take the desk to other locations on my patch where venues are kindly made available by Parish Councils and Hall Committees. This is part of the neighbourhood policing pledge to deliver a visible, community-focused police presence.
A Police Desk is an opportunity for the community to meet their local NPT representatives. They may wish to discuss issues affecting them specifically, ongoing issues within the wider community or it might just be an opportunity to come along to put a face to the name and just say "hello".

It was great meeting everyone. The children enjoyed trying on police uniform, sitting in the police car and learning more about what we do. Thank you for having us.
