We provide knowledge, support and confidence for young people to live independently.

Through our drop-in centre, support worker and team of committed volunteers we deliver practical and personalised services including advice and information, crisis support, and guided pathways to partner agencies. Our short term priority is always to alleviate the distress and hardship caused by problems with housing, finances, homelessness and personal welfare; longer term our goal is to empower

Carlisle’s young people to unlock a happy, secure and independent future, and to take an active and positive role in the community. We offer a Drop-In advice centre, providing face to face advice on :
Homelessness
Money Management
Welfare Benefits
Housing
Employment
Debt
and any other related issues you may have. We can also provide practical help and support in crisis situations in the form of food parcels, clothing, and toiltetries - stocks permitting. We also offer a counselling and supported accommodation service which are both accessed via our drop-in.

Carlisle Key has been named a 2026 Weston Charity Award winner and is set to receive a support package worth more than £22,000.

The award includes access to Pilotlight 360 programme, which offers eight months of leadership coaching and strategic support valued at £16,000’ along with a £6,500 grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation

Carlisle Key was selected from more than 180 applicants and is among 22 charities recognised across the Midlands, Wales and the North of England.

We are so excited about what this support can help us achieve for young people in Carlisle and throughout Cumbria !!

We are hoping to raise funds to secure and renovate a new Drop-in location in Carlisle city centre, with a target of £190,000 being set.

This will provide a vital lifeline to young people in our area aged 16-25 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or in crisis. As Diana Vlad, our CEO, says “There are dozens of young people in Carlisle who are facing homelessness or a housing crisis and this project will make sure that they always have somewhere to turn”.

“The new place would be somewhere that they can walk through the door and find food, counselling and practical support, and someone who will listen”.

“Having our own space will give Carlisle Key that stability we need to keep offering that lifeline - and it would give young people a place that belongs to them”.

The estimated £190,000 needed will cover the purchase costs as well as essential repairs. Carlisle Key is calling on the community, businesses and funders to help make our goal a reality. For more information please get in touch 📞 ✉️ or come in and see us 💙

We had a great day out in Manchester last Friday - a proper ‘urban hike’ (we walked miles in the hot sun ☀️)with no plans - just seeing where we would end up. Finding ourselves at Afflecks Arcade, New Islington Marina and 🤣 surprisingly at Greater Manchester Police Museum where the staff were fantastic, giving us some old Manchester crime stories !!

A great day walking round Liverpool on Friday, we covered miles !! Both cathedrals, the Albert Dock, Mathew Street, Museum of Liverpool, St. John’s Market and the Everton shop🤣 - and much, much more !!

A great day out in Edinburgh !! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Lots of walking, going up to the Castle, down to the Grassmarket and along and up to Calton Hill - our young people had the best day out !!

Thank you and for the funding we received. 🙏🏼 We got a new couch, various other furnishings and decorations and some paints for our Drop-in centre and some furnishings and decorations for our supported accommodation 💙
