The tarn has recently had a prolonged algal bloom, but in the last few days the algae has died off and the water is now clear.
As the algae dies off bacteria and microorganisms break down the dead algae. During decomposition, bacteria use large amounts of dissolved oxygen for respiration, thus reducing the overall oxygen levels in the tarn.
As a result, it would appear that some fish have died from hypoxia. Although this is a naturally occurring phenomenon, we will keep monitoring the situation to ensure that there are no other issues.
We are continuing to use our aerator system (overnight - as this is the most effective time to use it).
Please continue to visit our beautiful country park but follow any advisory notices we have in place. We hope to see you soon.
