Good news for Carlton residents

Gedling Borough Council has welcomed the decision of Planning Committee to approve plans for the transformation of Carlton Active, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of a modern leisure facility for residents.

The approved plans will support the redevelopment of Carlton Active into a modern, sustainable leisure and wellbeing destination designed to meet the needs of local communities now and into the future.

Absolutely agree!
An inspirational and authentic speech laying out a vision for a fairer society

I have been listening to Andy Burnham's Conference speech. A speech built around one argument: Britain needs to take back control of the things everyone depends on.

He has given us all a lot to think about!

Andy Burnham called out deindustrialisation, deregulation, privatisation, austerity and Brexit as causes of Britain’s decline. Then he laid out a plan to put more of the essentials under public control.

Housing: Build council homes at a scale not seen since the post-war era and reform Right to Buy for new homes.
Water: Repeal the ban on public ownership of water companies and give mayors stronger powers to hold them accountable.
Energy: Create a publicly owned Great British Grid to speed up connections and drive down costs.
Care: Build a National Care Service, free at the point of use, with no care charges paid from the basic state pension.
Pensions: Change the triple lock to a double lock with a safety clause from April 2030, using savings to help build the care service.
Democracy: Launch a commission on electoral reform and take a commitment to change the voting system into the next election.

This is a genuine 'take back control!' I for one am looking forward to it!

📣 CARLTON COMMUNITY HUB IS BACK OPEN! 🎉🙌

Emergency repairs to our building have been completed and the hub is back open as usual from today.

HUGE thanks to our friends at St Paul's and St Cyprian's churches for hosting sessions whilst our building was out of action 💛.

Thanks also to our volunteer teams for being so adaptable and continuing to run sessions despite the challenges!👏

Totally agree with these comments - residents of Carlton deserve to have modern leisure facilities - my children learnt to swim with Carlton Forum swimming club and it’s brilliant that future generations can too

Our ceiling problems are still not resolved...Please come and join us at our new temporary home. The usual fun, frolics and cake will be available to guests old and new.

Owing to the ongoing problems with our ceiling we have had to make alternative temporary arrangements for the Foodbank and Community café sessions at Carlton Hub.

The Council is currently consulting on an Article 4 Direction within the Netherfield area which would remove permitted development rights to change the use of houses to small HMOs of up to 6 residents, meaning planning permission would be required.

This proposal is being brought forward to help the Council better manage the concentration and distribution of HMOs, ensure balanced and sustainable communities, and address local concerns.

The Council is keen to hear from residents, landlords and businesses before any decision is made. Your feedback will help inform whether and how the Direction is implemented. Open tomorrow for Food Club

Just to reassure all of our Food club members, although the cafe ceiling has fallen in, we are still running our Thursday Food club sessions. We will have the waiting area and box collections in the church but unfortunately cannot offer any refreshments and have no toilet facilities.

It is still possible to sign up as a new member, £1 to join and the just £4 per week, for a box of food similar to the one pictured below. The food club starts at 12 noon and typically we are 'sold out' by around 12:45.
