Gedling Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Steve King
September 2026 update:
Hello and welcome to my September update.
I hope many of you have been able to enjoy the summer months and spend some well-earned time with family and friends.
Over the past few months, our neighbourhood policing teams have continued to work closely with local communities, businesses and partner agencies to tackle the issues that matter most to residents.
Local Policing Priorities (July – September 2026)
Keeping our communities safe remains our priority. Working alongside residents, businesses and partner agencies, we continue to focus on the issues that matter most across the Gedling borough. Our current local policing priorities are:
Acquisitive Crime (burglary, robbery, shoplifting and theft)
Anti-Social Behaviour (including behavioural issues, motorcycle nuisance, speeding and begging)
Drugs (possession, supply and cannabis cultivation)
Acquisitive Crime
We have seen encouraging progress in reducing acquisitive crime across the area.
August recorded a 16.9% reduction in all acquisitive crime, including:
Shoplifting offences down by 38%
Overall burglary down by 26.7%
Business burglaries down by 65%
These reductions reflect the ongoing efforts of neighbourhood officers, response teams, investigators, local businesses and members of the public who continue to report concerns and provide valuable information.
On 13th August, officers arrested a suspect in connection with a burglary in Calverton at approximately 5.30am. During the arrest, officers recovered items believed to have been stolen and enquiries remain ongoing.
We have also made several arrests linked to a series of business burglaries across the Gedling area. Investigations continue and we remain committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible.
Vehicle crime has remained relatively stable overall. While thefts of motor vehicles reduced significantly during August, there has been an increase in thefts from vehicles. We continue to encourage owners to take simple preventative measures, including:
Removing valuables from vehicles
Ensuring vehicles are locked and secure
Avoiding leaving items on display
Recently, officers arrested a 49-year-old man in Arnold on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle and possession of a bladed article in a public place having been seen acting suspiciously in the early hours of the morning. Information provided by the public really can help us act quickly to bring offenders to justice.
Anti-Social Behaviour
Anti-social behaviour continues to be a key concern raised by local communities.
One of the most common issues reported to us is the illegal use of off-road bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters in public spaces. Acting on information provided by residents, officers have continued targeted enforcement activity, resulting in a number of vehicle seizures and positive action against offenders.
It is important to emphasise that these operations are driven by community concerns. Our aim is not to stop people enjoying their hobbies responsibly, but to address behaviour that causes danger, nuisance and distress to others.
While some bikes may be used legally on private land with permission, action will be taken where riders are identified using them unlawfully in public spaces. We would strongly urge parents and guardians to ensure children understand the law and the potential consequences of illegal riding.
We have also received some reports of youth-related anti-social behaviour in parts of Gedling, including incidents involving young people climbing onto roofs and intimidating local residents. Such behaviour is dangerous and will not be tolerated.
Work is ongoing to identify those responsible, and we will continue working closely with our partners to take robust action where appropriate. This may include the use of civil powers and tenancy-related enforcement measures where necessary.
Drugs
The supply and distribution of illegal drugs remains a key focus for both local policing teams and specialist force resources.
Through intelligence-led policing and partnership working, we continue to disrupt criminal activity linked to drug supply networks operating within our communities.
Many residents may have seen reports on social media regarding the discovery of a significant cannabis cultivation operation in Ravenshead. Officers located more than 500 cannabis plants at the property, and investigations are continuing.
We remain committed to pursuing those involved in the production and supply of illegal drugs, which are often linked to wider criminality and the exploitation of vulnerable people.
Community Engagement
Community engagement remains at the heart of neighbourhood policing.
Over recent months, officers have attended a range of community events and held pop-up engagement sessions across Gedling, including in Arnold Town Centre and various local open spaces.
These events provide valuable opportunities for residents to:
Raise concerns directly with officers
Discuss local issues affecting their neighbourhood
Receive crime prevention advice
Learn more about local policing activity
