Today the area was littered with rubbish including glass bottles and disposable BBQ'S 😡

‼️A recent fire caused extensive damage and devastation to the hills surrounding the reservoir leaving charred remains and destroying the natural habitats of the wildlife living there 🪺🪱

⚠️If you are visiting the area please leave no trace behind and do not light fires or use BBQ's 🔥
Take all of your litter home with you!
If you can carry it there then you can carry it back home!! 😡

With current weather conditions drastically increasing the risk of wildfires, our teams have been ​working with Rural Crime and have been carrying out joint patrols and engaging with visitors. Additionally clear signage, and key advice has been provided at popular picnic spots.
​⚠️ Please leave disposable barbecues at home. In tinder-dry conditions, a single spark or lingering ember on dry grass can trigger a devastating wildfire.
​Help us protect our beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and local communities.
​Simple steps to keep our open spaces safe:
​❌ Avoid using disposable barbecues or open flames in rural areas.
​🚭 Ensure all smoking materials are completely extinguished and never thrown from vehicles.
​🗑️ Take all litter and glass bottles home with you—glass can magnify sunlight and ignite dry grass.
​🚨 If you spot smoke or a fire in the countryside, call 999 immediately.

​During recent joint patrols with Dyfed-Powys Police and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, we’ve unfortunately seen continued evidence of beach fires and disposable barbecues along our coastline.
​Here is why this is so dangerous:
​Extreme Dry Conditions: With no rain, coastal vegetation like gorse and grass is tinder-dry and ignites instantly.
​Invisible Hot Spots: Hot embers left buried in the sand can stay dangerously hot for hours, posing a severe burn risk to children, dogs, and barefoot walkers.
​Putting Pressure on Emergency Services: A single runaway wildfire diverts crucial fire and rescue resources away from other life-threatening emergencies in our community.
​Our coastline is breathtaking, but it’s also vulnerable right now. Please help us keep our communities safe:
❌ DO NOT light fires or campfires on the beach or coastal paths.
❌ DO NOT use disposable barbecues in dry, coastal areas.
✅ DO pack a picnic instead and take all your litter home.
​If you see an unattended fire or a wildfire, call 999 immediately.

Gwasanaeth Tân ac Achub CGC / MAWW Fire and Rescue

Partnership | PCSOs Williams and Wadham met with the fire service and crime reduction tactical advisers to discuss ongoing issues of fires being started in the woodland at Pluck Lake, Morfa.

79 calls have been made to Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service in the area since July 1. Please be mindful of throwing litter and cigarette ends and dispose of them safely in the bins provided. Campfires and BBQs are also a danger in the area, particularly in the current hot weather.

😩 This is the second time in a week that Tennant park in Skewen has been targeted by mindless individuals who think it's fun to start deliberate fires 🔥 😡

This time it damaged the fence panel of a nearby property.
The toxic smoke was drifting towards the nearby railway line, so could have become a dangerous problem for passing trains.

❗️Deliberately set fires like these put a huge strain on the resources of our fire service crews, who are extremely busy because of the prolonged dry spell that we are experiencing at the moment 🔥👩‍🚒❗️

The Arson Reduction Team have visited Pluck Lake, Llansamlet, Swansea recently following several woodland fires.

We are saddened to see the destruction this has caused to the site. Pluck Lake is a “Site of Importance for Nature Conservation”. Swansea Council and Natural Resources Wales work together to protect and improve the area as the site is home to many species of wildlife.

We believe that these recent fires are deliberate and are appealing for information to stop this criminal act. These fires can escalate and with the recent dry weather, this is putting a huge strain on our fire crews.

If you do visit this area, please remember:-

❗️Report illegal fly tipping to Swansea Council
