10 years ago, seems like yesterday, we witnessed the culmination of ‘project fear’ where basically, the world would end, life as we know it would end.

No more UK (the irony).

No more insert ‘anything’ on and on…

I vividly remember the night, the low’s, the trepidation, the drumbeat, that self governance, self determination, having your own agency, as an individual and as A COUNTRY was to be replaced with a technocratic rule of your betters.

We had no idea, like many, but it didn’t stop us trying, dare to lose to win…

How it would go, we all made our arguments.

The talking heads, the experts, the ‘thinking-class’ dominated the airwaves, the chattering class, the hubris, the snobbery, was for all to see, who choose to see.

But the silent majority, cast their ballot, anonymously, defied the pollsters, the expert class, their betters 🙄 and around 7:30am 24/6/16, it was announced to a Chernobyl-style meltdown, disbelief, indignation and incredulity of the media, and the above mentioned, that Brexit won!

The people spoke, it was a peaceful and democratic rebellion and a democratic turn-out that the establishment, still cannot fathom to this day.

Nonetheless, we WON that battle, but to paraphrase, that War (and politics is War by other means) continues to this day…

Thank you Claire Archibald MS: Pembrokeshire & Ceredigion for organising this very informative visit, where we met with senior representatives from Hywel Dda University Health Board to discuss the future of healthcare services across west Wales, including Glangwili and Withybush hospitals, stroke care, maternity services, diagnostics, and community care.

The discussions were extremely insightful.

There is clearly a significant amount of work still to be done, but without a shadow of a doubt, we need to ensure the NHS works for everyone across west Wales.

I look forward to working closely with our neighbours to help achieve that.

A great day and a valuable visit.

It was an interesting day in the Senedd Plenary once again for this Tuesday, more tomorrow….

In the meantime…

The spending (draining) of capital is being spent as operational expenditure, what could go wrong?

Summer now comes with (many) a health warning.

And making farming, tourism and rural life, unsustainable is now called sustainability!

Anyway, it’s a funny ole world…

My one-minute supplementary question today…

23/06/2026

Statement from Gareth Beer MS following major incident on the A484 at Kidwelly

"My thoughts are with everyone affected by the serious collision involving a bus on the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout this afternoon. This is a deeply concerning incident, and my heart goes out to the passengers, drivers, and their families during this worrying time.

"I want to extend my profound gratitude to our emergency services who are on the scene dealing with this major incident. Their swift response, dedication, and professionalism in these challenging circumstances are deeply appreciated by our entire community.

"The A484 remains closed between the Parc y Bocs roundabout and Llandyfaelog. I strongly urge all motorists to avoid the area, seek alternative routes, and strictly follow the guidance of officers on the ground to allow our emergency services to carry out their vital work safely."

It’s certainly been a busy weekend here in Llanelli/Carmarthenshire/Sir Gaerfyrddin.

I (sort of)was worried the great food in the canteen in the Senedd, I was putting on weight, I’m sure I’ve lost a few pounds in this heatwave (aka a proper summer for a couple of days) in last 24 hrs…

Onwards to Sunday morning, after the summer ball for the Llanelli Royal British Legion, we rejoined these amazing people for the flag-raising in Llanelli Town. Thank you for your efforts!

Then in the afternoon, we popped down to Kidwelly to join the Kidwelly Town Council in celebrating the new mayor, Laura Jones being sworn-in the St Mary’s church, where the Reverend Jim, did an amazing speech/sermon on the contrast between how us humans interact in person, and how we converse (sometimes) online, social media etc, very relevant, very perceptive! Wise words! 🙏

Congratulations to Madam Mayor Laura Jones, you’ll do a fantastic job, leading the Kidwelly Town Council for which I’m very grateful on giving me the heads-up, the preamble and confidence, although still learning, on ‘standing up, in chamber!’ Good luck Laura and all the great fantastic KTC team!

Finally, on my 7th coffee for the day, 5:30pm stopped in Crosshands at the Workies, for a celebratory branch get together, meet up and thanks to ALL the branch members for their stoic, effervescent help in the Senedd campaign, that got 3 of us over the line!

Diolch to Bernard & Vaughan who’s taken the reigns, Michelle campaign mgr, Chrissie secretary who’ve done a fantastic job!

Diolch to Gavin Rashbrook, Llangennech County Council candidate for this Thursday, great short speech and a dab hand on the Raffle! 💪

Good luck for Thursday, you’ll be a brilliant Councillor!

Next front for us, will be the County Council elections, incoming in less than a year… 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

It’s been busy, to say the least, but no way boring, once again, genuinely amazing to be in the company of some fantastic people! 😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Big shout out to Wyn, see you tomorrow, no matter where! 😆

Diolch yn fawr iawn! Nos da!

Happy Father’s Day!

It’s one of those moments, when your littlest pumpkin phones you up (well FaceTimes, they don’t do audio only, as is the modern age) to wish you ‘happy daddy’s day’ and show you her home made card!

To all the dads, dads and grandads that have left us and ones that are to be!

We honour you, it’s an honour to be one, we salute you, we love you! 🥰

It was an honour and a privilege to be invited to the Royal British Legion Llanelli branch, Armed Forces Summer Ball last night.

It was a superbly organised event, lovely food and great company, had some very interesting conversations with some very great people, many of whom had put their lives on the line for this great country.

As well, it was lovely to speak to some younger ones, doing their part, training cadets and carrying the standard to the next generation.

Plus, there’s some great people working hard on behalf of homeless veterans here in Llanelli, fantastic work and we wish you luck.

Finally thank you to all the staff at the Diplomat Hotel, Llanelli for hosting a wonderful event.

An honour and a privilege to attend and be in such good honourable company.

Thank you everyone.

Diolch yn fawr iawn. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
