🗞️Carmelo Colasanto MS update.

At Reform Wales, we are now backing plans to overhaul the social housing system, putting hardworking Welsh families and young people at the front of the queue and ensuring social housing is targeted at those who have built their lives and communities in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Reform Wales’ Freedom of Information work across Wales raises an issue regarding who is being prioritised for social housing. In Cardiff, non-UK nationals accounting for 22.1% of those on the waiting list where nationality was recorded, and over 30% of recorded lead tenants for social housing lettings. However, in a shocking 77% of cases, nationality data is not recorded. Newport Council also reported that more than 1 in 4 of their temporary accommodation is occupied by foreign nationals.

It is unacceptable that new arrivals who have not paid into the system and have no connection to the land should jump the queue ahead of Welsh nationals in need!

Great to catch up with some like-minded and thoroughly decent people for the Reform Carmarthenshire / Sir Gâr Reform UK Wales Reform UK Carmarthen branch meeting in Crosshands this afternoon, super well attended for a bank holiday Sunday as well.

There’s new people at the helm of the branch, but the enthusiasm is contagious and continuing, as we ALL warm up to the next stage of the common sense, reforming peoples army.

After electing 3, yes, 3, Reform MS’s in May, just gone, the next battle front will be bringing some long overdue ‘Reform’ to our Local Councils.

Let’s be honest, we’re paying ever increasing council tax, for ever decreasing services, you name it, meddling with bin collections, pot holes, 20mph, litter unchecked, blocked drains, unaccountable spending on everything from building Gyms, go-karts, vanity projects and ‘investments’ with public money that will NEVER pay off!

Time for Reform, long over due….

The branch, the grassroots, the people's army got the job done last May, time to get the job this May.

We will be supporting the great branch team in the coming months, but do you know what? It's really down to the members, if you’re not one, become a member, again, the grassroots WILL make the DIFFERENCE!

From Llandovery, Ammanford, Crosshands, Carmarthen, St Clears, Burry Port, Kidwelly, Bynea, LLANELLI over to YOU!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Carmarthenshire, Wales needs Reform.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Diolch yn fawr iawn!

The Atriwm project in Carmarthen has spiraled from £19m to £41m+ with delays into 2027. Reform UK is demanding full transparency. We need frontline service investment, not expensive municipal leisure risks.

Cardiff Bay's answer to falling educational standards and teacher shortages? A £200,000 pilot scheme for "Community Focused Schools Plus". After 25 years of Labour and Plaid Cymru mismanagement, Wales has recorded its worst-ever PISA results, leaving our pupils nearly a year behind the rest of the UK. Spread across Wales, this token funding will accomplish virtually nothing for pupils in Sir Gaerfyrddin. Teachers are exhausted,
headteachers are starved of resources, and parents are frustrated. Reform UK believes in cutting central educational bureaucracy and sending funds directly to frontline classrooms. Read More: https://reformukcarmarthenshire.com/blog/token-pilots-will-not-fix-carmarthenshires-broken-school-system

Cardiff Bay’s latest announcement of a £200,000 pilot scheme for Community Focused Schools is a drop in the ocean for families and teachers across Sir Gaerfyrddin. After decades of Labour and…

Welsh health services are failing vulnerable young people. The Welsh Gender Service is under probe after referral rates
for irreversible surgeries reached up to four times the UK average. Parental knowledge is being sidelined for rushed
clinical decisions. Reform UK is demanding accountability, transparency, and frontline mental health funding to protect
families across Sir Gaerfyrddin.

💡The latest official figures from Ofgem and independent energy analysts expose the reality of Cardiff and Westminster energy policy. With the Ofgem price cap rising by 4% to £1,723 this October, and Cornwall Insight forecasting a further jump to £1,852 by early 2027, families across Sir Gaerfyrddin are being pushed to breaking point.

Industry analysis from EDF confirms that £70 billion in grid expansion costs and mandatory green levies are directly inflating these bills, forcing local residents to bankroll central government's ideologically driven targets.

Rural Communities Left Out in the Cold.

This burden falls disproportionately on our rural constituency. Off-grid households across Carmarthen, Llandovery, and the Tywi Valley rely heavily on home heating oil or electric storage systems, making them exceptionally vulnerable to high electricity unit rates (26.32p/kWh) and daily standing charges (54.83p/day).

Walking past the former Debenhams in St Catherine’s Walk, residents of Carmarthen do not see a modern regeneration success story. They see a stark symbol of public sector overreach and runaway spending. What was initially sold as a modest £19 million concept to repurpose a retail space has ballooned into an astounding £41 million money pit, with opening dates pushed back to 2027 due to structural flaws and unforeseen costs.

While local businesses struggle with high business rates and footfall drops, the council is expanding its scope into running indoor go-karting and adventure golf.
Frontline Services Left in the Cold
The Welsh Government continues to trumpet grand central planning tasks and town centre taskforces while fundamental local services deteriorate. Reform UK believes in strict public accountability, frontline delivery, and cutting administrative bloat.
