A great couple of days in Sheffield at the SFJ training centre, undertaking SST training with NaCTSO for the Level 3 CTPSAP course.

A really valuable course that strengthens existing knowledge and skills, enabling us deliver the course more effectively, better support our delegates, and strengthen our wider team.

It was also fantastic to meet some highly knowledgeable and influential people in the field, share experiences, and grow our network of like-minded professionals.

No days off when it comes to protecting people. 🛡️

Our MD is taking a well-earned break from MSc Fire Engineering coursework this evening,by diving straight into pre-course learning ahead of next week's SST training for the Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness (CTPSaP) qualification.

Why? Because leadership means leading from the front.

As Centre Head, completing this training means being able to fully support our two highly experienced trainers in this subject Brian Thompson and Emyr Williams, as we prepare to deliver this hugely important qualification.

A bit about CTPSaP for those who haven't come across it yet:

🔹 Developed by SFJ Awards in partnership with the National Counter-Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO)

🔹 The ONLY qualification of its kind endorsed by NaCTSO

🔹 Aligned to the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, better known as Martyn's Law.

With the UK threat level now at SEVERE, protective security and preparedness has never been more critical for venues, events and public-facing organisations.

📅 Training dates for both the Level 2 and Level 3 CTPSaP courses will be released later this week. Watch this space.

🚨 Big moment for us at Black Mountain Training Academy we have been working incredibly hard in the background and are proud to be one of the first companies in Wales approved to deliver these two counter-terrorism qualifications, and given where the threat picture sits right now, that means a lot to us.

🔹 Level 2 Award in Counter-Terrorism Protective Security Awareness (SFJ Awards). A one-day course for frontline and customer-facing staff. The people who notice when something's not right.

🔹 Level 3 Award in Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness (SFJ Awards). For managers, duty holders and anyone responsible for keeping a site and its people safe. It's the only qualification endorsed by Counter-Terrorism Policing and NaCTSO.

This has been an incredibly challenging and rigorous process to achieve this accreditation, and it's down to the hard work of the whole team. A massive thank you to everyone involved, for the exceptional effort they've put into getting us here.

Martyn's Law isn't being enforced yet, but our message is simple: don't wait for the legislation to start getting prepared. The organisations that act early will be the ones ready and confident when the duties do come into force, rather than scrambling to catch up. Preparedness is about protecting your people and your public, and that's worth getting ahead of. Whether you run a venue, a shop floor, a school, a hotel or a transport hub, these qualifications are a solid place to start.

🖤⛰️ A very warm welcome from our Managing Director to two exceptional new colleagues joining Black Mountain Fire Group and Black Mountain Academy today.

Brian Thompson joins us after a distinguished fire and rescue career, retiring as Assistant Chief Fire Officer and former National Resilience Lead for Wales. Brian brings strategic (Gold) command experience on major national operations including the 2014 NATO Summit, and a track record of designing large-scale counter-terrorism exercises.

Emyr Williams joins us following over thirty years with Dyfed-Powys Police, including Special Branch and the CT Operations cadre, alongside eleven years in learning and development and a lead role in Trauma Risk Management. Emyr is a qualified assessor, IQA, and fluent Welsh speaker.

Whilst most are enjoying the long weekend, the Black Mountain Fire team are on a road trip to the North East of England to carry out a Construction Phase Fire Risk Assessment on a timber frame development site for one of our clients. 🏗️🔥

Timber frame construction carries a significantly higher fire risk during the build and the law is clear.
Under CDM 2015, Regulations alongside the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and HSG168, Whether a Principal Designer or Principal Contractor you have a legal duty to identify, assess and control fire risk on site.

After an incredibly intensive period of planning, development, and hard work behind the scenes at Black Mountain Fire, I'm beyond proud to announce the official launch of Black Mountain Training Academy.

We have been approved as an SFJ Awards Approved Centre, and this is just the beginning.

🎓 We will be offering the following SFJ Awards qualifications:

✅ Level 2 Award in Fire Safety Principles
✅ Level 3 Award in Fire Safety Management
✅ Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment
✅ Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Fire Safety

Season's Greetings from Black Mountain Fire Group 🎄

As we bring 2025 to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on what has truly been a remarkable year.

We've had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people, embarking on exciting new journeys, and welcoming fantastic new members to our growing team. To everyone who has been part of our story this year, whether as a client, partner, or colleague, thank you. Your hard work, dedication, and support have made this year one to remember.

Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be our most ambitious year yet. With a number of new exciting projects starting in January, as well as serving our existing clients, We're also thrilled to announce that earlier this year we become an approved centre with Skills for Justice, enabling us to deliver a range of fire safety qualifications from Level 3 through to Level 5 in Fire Engineering Design.

Early 2026 will see us launching brand new qualifications specifically designed for fire risk assessors, developed in line with the competence framework, BS9792:2025

With this growth comes opportunity. We'll be advertising a number of exciting vacancies very soon, so watch this space if you're looking to join a passionate and forward-thinking team.
