IMPORTANT – COVE ROAD CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND
Silverdale Parish Council regrets that both shock absorbing springs on the Children’s Playground’s Zip wire catenary cable have been found broken today (Friday 28th August). We don’t know the reason for this, but this means that the carriage will come to a sudden stop, rather than progressively decelerate. We have taken the Zip Wire out of service by removing the drop seat and will enquire about cost and availability of spare parts as soon as possible. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Cove Road – Children’s Playground closed 20 and 21 April
The Children’s Playground at Cove Road will be closed on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st April to allow Parish Council contractors to renovate and resin point the entrance paved area. This is to protect users from being affected by dust when the old pointing is ground out. The pathway to Silverdale Bowling Club will still be open and the contractors have been asked to stop work if members wish to pass by. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

FLOODING ALERT
A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood alert in force: Coast at North Morecambe Bay

Flooding is possible for: Coast at North Morecambe Bay from Roosebeck to Carnforth including low lying areas around Ulverston, Greenodd, Haverthwaite, Flookburgh, Grange-over-Sands, Levens, Milnthorpe, Sandside, Arnside and Silverdale

High tides overnight may lead to flooding.

Flooding is possible from to 11:15PM on 17/04/2026 to 01:15AM on 18/04/2026

Locations most affected will be coastal roads and footpaths along the coast at North Morecambe Bay from Roosebeck to Carnforth including low lying areas around Ulverston, Greenodd, Haverthwaite, Flookburgh, Grange-over-Sands, Levens, Milnthorpe, Sandside, Arnside and Silverdale.

This Flood Alert will remain in force for Saturday 18/04/2026 lunch time tide with a peak expected 12:30PM.

Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.

Affordable Homes in Silverdale
Over 30 residents attended the Public Meeting held on Saturday 11 April 2026 at Silverdale Village Institute to hear of plans to build affordable homes in the village for local people.

Last year’s Silverdale Local Housing Needs Survey revealed a need for at least 20 affordable homes. After looking at various options within the village, the Parish Council approached the owners of the Woodlands Hotel and a field adjoining the estate to agree to investigate the feasibility of building affordable homes of various sizes and tenures on some of the land. In addition a key element of the project will be to protect the existing pub. Other components could be new community facilities on the ground floor, new uses for the upper floor, refurbishments of other buildings on the site, renovating the original pleasure gardens, other public open space, community allotments, reviving the Woodlands Rural Centre and/or other outdoor activities.

Silverdale Parish Council and Lune Valley Community Land Trust are working with the landowners, Lancashire Rural Housing Enabler Service, Lancaster City Council’s housing strategy and local planning officers, and Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape Partnership. The Parish Council and the Land Trust have appointed Halsall Lloyd Partnership to produce a Masterplan which will look at all aspects of the site, consult with the community, and provide an outline of what is possible. This includes where the affordable homes could be situated, what kind and how many. One spot that may be suitable for houses is the land in front of the Woodies. The reason for the Masterplan is to iron out all these and other issues, e.g. access, infrastructure, capacity of land etc — so that we can get an idea of what is feasible. The Masterplan will be completed by the end of July.

New affordable homes resulting from this project will be on land owned by Lune Valley Community Land Trust so that they remain affordable for local people in perpetuity. Possible outcomes include that they will be managed by a housing association and made available to local people at a discounted price, for social rent, or for shared ownership. This mix, as well as the size and type of housing, will depend on the needs of the community, who are represented by a steering group of local residents and stakeholders, including future users of affordable housing. Six local people have volunteered to sit on the Steering Group and others would be welcome to join too.
