A vacancy has arisen on Carnforth Town Council for a Town Councillor representing Crag Bank Ward, and we are now seeking expressions of interest from local residents who would like to serve their community.

Being a Town Councillor is a rewarding opportunity to:

The next Full Council Meeting will take place on Wednesday 21st October at 6:30pm.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.

• Updates on highway works and road closure communications
• Adoption of the Publication Scheme 2026
• Progress on the current councillor vacancy and co-option process
• Reports from Council committees
• Early discussions on the 2027/28 budget and precept
• Proposals to improve resident enquiries and Council correspondence processes

Thank you to everyone who attended the recent Town Development & Planning Committee meeting and shared their views.

In response to residents' feedback, Carnforth Town Council has launched a dedicated webpage where you can access information, updates, consultation opportunities and links relating to the emerging South East Carnforth Vision.

⚠️ It is important to remember that these proposals are currently at the vision stage only. No planning application has been submitted and no planning decisions have been made.

The new page will help residents stay informed, understand the wider Local Plan process and find opportunities to have their say as proposals develop.

Town Development & Planning Committee Listens to Residents on Emerging South East Carnforth Vision

Thank you to everyone who attended last night's Town Development & Planning Committee meeting and took the time to share their views on the emerging proposals for land to the south-east of Carnforth.

Councillors listened carefully to the comments, questions and concerns raised by residents. A clear message emerged from the discussion: the community wants accurate information, ongoing updates and meaningful opportunities to have its voice heard as the proposals develop.

It is important to emphasise that the MADE Partnership proposals are currently at the vision stage only. No planning application has been submitted, no planning decisions have been made, and the proposals remain at an early stage of development. There will be further work, consultation and engagement before any formal planning application could be considered.

In response to residents' comments, the Committee agreed that the Town Council should create a dedicated page on its website where residents can access information, announcements, consultation opportunities and updates relating to the emerging vision. This will provide a trusted source of information and help keep the community informed as further details become available.

Councillors recognise that this is a matter of significant interest to many residents. The Town Council welcomes early engagement and believes local people should have every opportunity to understand the proposals, ask questions and express their views.

Town Councillors are elected to represent and advocate for the interests of the community as a whole. As the vision develops, Councillors will continue to listen to residents, raise local concerns as weell as hopes, seek answers to questions and ensure that the views of Carnforth people are properly reflected in discussions about the town's future.

There is a long way to go before any formal planning decisions could be made, but one thing is clear: the Carnforth community has a strong voice, and your Town Council is committed to helping ensure that voice is heard.

Carnforth Town Council is aware of considerable community interest in the emerging proposals for land to the south-east of Carnforth.

It is important to be clear that what has been published by MADE Partnership is an early-stage vision and not a planning application. MADE Partnership says that the vision will continue to develop through technical work, the emerging Lancaster Local Plan process and input from local people.

The Town Council understands that MADE Partnership intends to engage with the community as the proposals develop. Its project website provides information about the emerging vision and an opportunity for residents to register for updates and future consultation opportunities.

The Town Council welcomes meaningful engagement with the community at this early stage. Proposals of this potential scale raise important questions for Carnforth, including infrastructure, transport and connectivity, local services, the environment and biodiversity, and the relationship between any future development and the existing town.

To provide reassurance that there will be further opportunities for residents to engage with and comment on the emerging proposals, MADE Partnership has advised the Town Council that it intends to undertake additional community engagement in late Spring as its thinking on the masterplan develops and more detail becomes available. This engagement could take the form of a presentation at a meeting of the Town Council or a separate public engagement event dedicated to the proposals. The Town Council welcomes this commitment and will work with MADE Partnership to ensure that residents are made aware of any future opportunities to participate in the discussion.

No discussion or decision on the proposals will take place at tonight's Town Council meeting, as the matter is not on the published agenda. Residents should therefore not attend tonight's meeting solely for the purpose of making representations about this proposal.

This does not mean that the Town Council considers the emerging vision unimportant. Quite the opposite. As more detail becomes available, the Council will consider the proposals carefully, encourage residents to participate in consultation, and scrutinise the implications for Carnforth and its community.

There is a long process ahead before proposals of this nature could progress. The Town Council will keep residents informed and will seek to ensure that the community has a strong voice as the vision develops.
