Barry Mill NTS

Barry Mill NTS See the power of water turning the waterwheel bringing to life the millstones and sack lift inside this picturesque 19th-century working mill.

Our Mill is the finest example of a pre-industrial corn mill still extant in Scotland but besides the wonderful architecture & machinery and stories that live within, our gem of a nature reserve with walks by the Barry burn is open to all - all year for you to enjoy. 💙 Nestled in a peaceful valley beside the Barry Burn, but only 8 miles from Dundee, Barry Mill offers a glimpse into a way of Scottish rural life that's almost vanished.

🌾🌊 Join a tour of the working water-powered mill, once the beating heart of the community for almost 800 years. Watch the great stone wheels turning, hear the rush of the burn beneath your feet and discover how generations of millers kept this remarkable place running.

🐭 Younger visitors can also pick up a mouse hunt trail sheet and search for our mischievous rodent characters hidden throughout the mill.

🌳 Afterwards, follow the burnside path and see what wildlife you can spot along the way.

🧺 Bring a picnic and make the most of a summer afternoon in the idyllic grounds.

💗 Nestled in a tranquil valley beside the Barry Burn, but only 8 miles from Dundee, late spring is a beautiful time to visit the mill.

🌾🌊 Join a tour of the working water-powered mill, once the beating heart of the rural community for almost 800 years. Now it's one of the largest remaining examples in operation. See the great stone wheels turning and hear the millers' charming tales of Scottish rural life that shaped this place for generations.

🌳 Then follow the burnside path, surrounded by fresh spring colours and the chatter of birdsong, for a calm, relaxing walk.

And when you’re ready for a pause, a picnic by the water is a perfect spot to take in the changing season.
