📢 Training post 🚒

On tuesday 21st October, a crew from Carrbridge travelled through to Aviemore for a practical training night, joining up with our colleagues from Aviemore Community Fire Station.

Our task was to carry out rescue techniques involving a car on its roof. To do this we removed a drivers side door and the boot door to allow access to a "casualty" trapped in the drivers seat.
Various methods of stabilisation and cutting/spreading were used throughout the session which was delivered by Aviemore's newest incident commander, Blair Mclure.

Training for incidents like this are to key to all firefighters development and skill retention, giving us all the confidence and experience when called out to road traffic collions.

Joint training sessions gives the crew a chance to work alongside colleagues from other stations and once again we'd like to thank Aviemore for hosting us and running the session.
We'd also like to congratulate Blair on gaining his incident command Qualification, well done. 👏

📢 Training post! 🚒

On Tuesday 23rd September Carrbridge Community Fire Station and Aviemore Community Fire Station took part in a practical wildfire training session.
Both stations have recently been upgraded to Tier 2 wildfire units, equipped to provide support at wildfire call outs beyond basic firefighting.

The session was provided by Invergordon community fire station personnel as they house one of SFRS's dedicated wildfire response units. This unit is made up by a modified Ford Ranger, a Polaris off road vehicle and two firefighters.

The crew were given a demonstration on each piece of equipment before crew members were able to get some practical handling on the equiptmemt.

We would like to thank the crew from Invergordon Fire Station for taking the time to bring the kit to us as this is a major step forward for Carrbridge and Aviemore in our development as tier 2 wildfire units.

We have attached some pictures below with a brief description.

⚠️ An EXTREME wildfire warning has been issued for the whole of Scotland for Friday, 26 September.

There is also a VERY HIGH warning in place for all of Scotland from tomorrow, Wednesday, 24 September until Thursday, 25 September.

SFRS Group Commander Serge Kabamba said: “We recognise temperatures are dropping across the country and people might not think that the risk is there, however the effects of this year’s spring drought are still visible across the landscape, with dry soils and browned vegetation increasing the risk of fire."

We ask that everyone enjoying the outdoors is extra cautious and thinks twice before using anything involving a naked flame.

🚒 Training post 👨‍🚒

In the last few weeks we've carried out a number of scenario based training exercises.

The first of these was a simple door removal of the front and rear passeneger side doors. This training session was to allow some of our firefighters in development a chance to gain experience using our hydraulic rescue equipment on a basic exercise.

The second training session was more technical.
The task was a casualty rescue from the drivers seat of a car that had come to rest on its side.
This session was split into three sections. Stabilising the car, preparing the car for cutting techniques (glass management plus peel and reveal) and then the extrication (folding the roof down to ground level).
There's a lot of work goes into a rescue from a vehicle, so exercises like this give our firefighters the ideal training and preparation.

Our most recent training session was a little different. We covered a number of skills such as water rescue, pumping from open water, building dams and driving hand signals.
All these skills are a key part of our training due to the variety of call outs we recieve as well as keeping our firefighters and members of public safe.

Thanks again to Aviemore Community Fire Station for you assistance with our RTC training and to Firefighter Steven Malcolm for the use of your land during the third training night.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone from

👨‍🚒 Welcome to the team, Steven Malcolm 👨‍🚒

Everyone at Carrbridge fire station would like to extend a very warm welcome to our newest recruit, Steven.
Joining on the 18th of August, Steven completed his four day training course on the Thursday, picked up his pager on the Friday and responded to a first call out on the saturday.
Fitting in seamlessly, Steven has a great relationship with crew mates, gets stuck in at training, showing a great level of basic knowledge and has given us a superb level of availability.

Speaking to one of the crew commanders, Steven commented “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far. The crew at Carrbridge have been very welcoming and I’ve encountered officers and fellow trainees from all over the Highlands during basic training. I’ve learned so much already in the short time I’ve been involved in the service, and I’m very much looking forward to the weeks and months ahead. The volunteer role suits me perfectly because I can sign on and off the run to suit both my family life and professional commitments.”

Steven has been great addition to the team and we all can't wait to work with him more over the next few years, and see how he develops in to a fully competent firefighter.

Well done Steven. 🚒

🚒Training post 13/08/25👨‍🚒

On Wednesday our crew took part in some practical RTC training through in Aviemore.
We first set up a tool dump, which involves taking the required tools off the appliance and setting up then in a manner than allows swift retrieval during operations.
We then stabilised the car and used our hydraulic combination tool (cutters/spreaders) to remove the rear passeneger door to gain access to the rear passenger seats. The crew also spent some time discussing how we could "tunnel" through the car by removing the rear passeneger seat completely.
As always we had discussions throughout each part of the operation and finished with a debrief on the overall outcome of the session.

These training nights are immensely important for our crew to retain the knowledge and competence to carry out rescue operations, its also a great way to build on team work and learn something new.

We'd like to thank Aviemore Community Fire Station for the use of their drill yard once again.
