Regulation 19 – Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004
Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012.
The Submission Draft Local Plan represents the final version of the Plan that Braintree District Council intends to submit to the Secretary of State for independent examination. It sets out the vision, strategy, site allocations and development management policies to guide development in the Braintree district to 2043.
How to View the Consultation Documents:
• Online: www.braintree.gov.uk/localplanreg19
• Braintree District Council Offices, Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree (during usual working hours)
• Public libraries across the District (during usual working hours)
Making a representation:
At this stage, representations are invited on whether the Local Plan is:
• Legally compliant, and
• Sound (i.e. positively prepared, justified, effective, and consistent with national policy)
Guidance is available on what makes a Local Plan ‘sound’ or ‘unsound’.
Consultation responses are strongly encouraged directly via the Councils online consultation system.

• A response Form can be downloaded, completed and returned
• Paper response forms are available at Braintree District Council Offices, Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree and from public libraries.
The Consultation Period:
Wednesday 23rd September to 5pm Friday 6th November 2026.
Consultation Events:
As part of the consultation, exhibitions are being held across the District. These are drop in sessions which are being held from 4pm to 8pm at the following locations;
• Coggeshall Village Hall (Main Hall) – Tuesday 13 October
• Halstead, Queens Hall – Wednesday 21st October
• Feering Community Centre – Monday 26th October
• Kelvedon Institute (Main Hall) – Wednesday 28th October
Information on all areas will be available at all sessions.
Webinar: We are holding a virtual webinar on Microsoft Teams where our Planning Policy team will outline what the Local Plan is, what it covers, explain the consultation process, and highlight how the Local Plan will shape the future of the district:
Tuesday 20th October from 6pm-7pm. To register, visit the BDC website. The webinar will be recorded and shared on the Local Plan Review webpage for anyone who is unable to attend on the day.
