Our Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) is in Leuchars, Fife and our 4 Squadrons are in Bangor, Paisley, Cumbernauld and Newcastle with Troop detachments in Leuchars, Kinloss, Orkney and Sunderland
. We are paired with 39 Engineer Regiment, a Regular Royal Engineer Regiment based in Kinloss, Moray. This pairing offers fantastic training opportunities both at home and overseas, as well as an added dimension to whatever training they help us deliver. We have just over 400 Army Reserve soldiers currently serving in the Regiment, each Squadron having around 110 personnel. We have a Permanent Staff Team of around 50, made up of Regular Army, Full Time Reserve Service and Civilians, they are available at all our locations most week days as well as enabling, training and mentoring our Reserve contingent: their aim is to make your Army Reserve experience as diverse, challenging and rewarding as possible. The Royal Engineers, one of the oldest corps in the British Army, commonly known as the Sappers are the construction arm for the Armed Forces. The Engineers provide support to the rest of the Armed Forces, ensuring their ability to live, move, and fight. This support includes building the accommodation, roads, bridges and airfields needed to successfully prosecute combat operations. As a Force Support Unit, 71 Engineer Regiment has a defined operational role in support of the Regular Army. Each Squadron must be able to Force Generate a troop’s worth of Force Support capability in support of training and operations as follows:
102 Field Squadron – Construction Plant & Combat Infrastructure.
103 Field Squadron – Construction Plant & Combat Infrastructure.
124 Field Support Squadron – Engineer Logistics Node & Combat Infrastructure.
591 Field Squadron – Combat Infrastructure Troop. In order to provide the flexibility required to meet our operational requirements each Squadron holds a mix of trades so opportunities for each of the trades below exist across most of the Regiment’s locations. We are looking for fit enthusiastic men and women between the ages of 18 and 43 from across Scotland and Northern Ireland and North East England to join our team. We are also seeking former Regular and Reserve soldiers and skilled construction professionals, however, no experience is necessary, as you will be trained in basic soldiering skills and a variety of technical trades. All applicants must be able to meet the eligibility criteria.
