A huge congratulations to Katie Griffith, Senior Community Mental Health Nurse, who completed the 2026 London Marathon in support of Marie Curie, raising funds in memory of her Auntie Gill.

Marie Curie provided incredible care and support to Gill during the final two weeks of her life at home in November 2023. In tribute, Katie set an initial fundraising target of £2,500 — and thanks to the generosity of so many, she has now raised an amazing £3,019.80.

Katie would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to Sharin Martin and the team for organising a wonderful coffee morning, cake sale, and raffle fundraiser held at the Centenary Hub on 23rd April. The event alone raised an incredible £530.00 for this worthy cause.

A special thank you goes to our fantastic star bakers — Ros Taylor, Trina Kirk, Corinna Farnell, Jason Davis, and Jackie Lamb — as well as everyone who kindly donated cakes and raffle prizes, including The Crown Brompton, 149 Fish & Chips, Sarah Chapman, Tony Hutchins, ITC Subway, and Alex Kurlandzki. Your generosity made this event possible.

Thank you also to Jane Keen and Julie Sutherland (Tesco Community Champion) for helping to sell raffle tickets, and to Tracey Clark and Ava Bell for their support on the day.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, donated, and supported this fundraiser. Your kindness and generosity truly make a difference.

Last week we held the annual Commanders Big Breakfast. A joyous occasion attended by military and civilians who work for HQ Catterick Garrison or they are connected through their workplace to the HQ Team.
Guests, including Mayor Carl Tate, were greeted by Santa aka 'Santa' and Russ Dudley the piper. Once inside guests were treated to music and games ran by the brilliant British Army Band Catterick and the raffle was made more entertaining by Corry Star Sean Tully aka 'Antony Cotton'.
A massive thanks goes to those who made the event so enjoyable. Astral Blanchard and the catering Team from the Richmond Centre for providing the food and excellent service, Julie Sutherland aka 'Tesco Julie' for providing raffle prizes and generally supporting all garrison units throughout the year. Steven and Caitlin from Hugh James Solicitors for their continued sponsorship at events we hold and the GSU staff for setting up, helping on the day and supporting the event which was beautifully coordinated by Sharin Martin who worked hard to ensure the event was successful. Thanks also the Shannon Kirk for all the photos.
The raffle and sale of tickets raised £2215.00 which will be split equally between SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and our chosen charity for this year Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Thank you to all who attended and we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
