Cllr Lewis Sharp Promoted by Lewis Sharp.

I am delighted to announce I will be joining Reform UK, a party that stands for honesty, accountability, and common sense values that have been lost in Westminster. The Conservative Party no longer shows the leadership or conviction this country needs. Britain is crying out for real change, and Reform UK is the only party offering a clear plan to deliver it.

My priority will always be serving local residents, but I also believe it’s time to back a movement that puts the interests of ordinary people first. Reform UK is growing rapidly because it speaks to what so many of us feel, that Britain deserves better.

I will be writing to all residents in the coming weeks to let them know of my reasons for the move in more detail.

Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe Neighbourhood Plan (CCWNP) Regulation 14 Consultation

The CCWNP was voted for and passed at referendum in May 2021. It was adopted by Tandridge District Council in July 2021. The Neighbourhood Plan Implementation Group, a committee of the Four Parish and Village Councils, is now adding policies to the Neighbourhood Plan. Local Design Guidelines are also being reviewed. The NP Policies are regularly being used by the Parish & Village Councils and District Planning Officers where it is felt developers’ proposals are deficient in respecting character, lacking in infrastructure or are encroaching on the Green Belt.

With an NP, Parish and Village Councils get 25% of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) monies that are generated through new development to spend on local requirements. Without a Plan, this would be 15%.

The revised draft and survey are available to view in Caterham Hill and Valley Libraries and at https://ccwnp.org.uk. Please comment until 23.59 on Sunday 13th April 2025.

NP Engagement Events are being held so residents’ views on the revised draft and additional policies can be considered. We would urge residents to attend one of the events. Venues are:

Friday 14th March – 1.30pm-3.30pm at Westway Community Centre, 25 Chaldon Road, Caterham Hill, CR3 5PG

Saturday 15th March – 10am-4pm in Quadrant House, Croydon Road, Caterham, CR3 6PB

Monday 17th March – 6pm-7pm in the Function Room, Whyteleafe Tavern, Whyteleafe, CR3 0EE

Wednesday 19th March – 6pm-7pm in —Chaldon Village Hall, Rook Lane, Chaldon, CR3 5BN

I have this evening been notified of a planning pre-application put forward for Land West of Chaldon Common Road, that runs adjacent to Willey Farm Lane.

I have rung the development company and they advised me that this leaflet will be coming through residents letterboxes later this week.

I of course have a vested interest in this application given I live with my parents on Chaldon Common Road but I stood on a mandate to protect the green spaces of Chaldon & the wider district, so I intend to do just that.

I am available to contact preferably via email to allow me to digest any responses on [email protected].

The developer is hosting a drop-in session at Chaldon Village Hall on the 12th of March between 4pm-7pm and I encourage all residents to attend and voice their opinions.

Best Wishes,
Lewis Sharp

Dear Residents’

Please cascade this as you see necessary to neighbours, friends and family across Chaldon.

I would like to thank you for your support over the weekend in a challenging time for the local community, seeing an area of woodland being destroyed without any immediate powers to take action. It was extremely distressing to witness this first hand, nonetheless I am proud of the way our residents care so passionately for the area in which we live, which makes Chaldon so wonderful.

Whilst I appreciate, there will some deserved criticism of the council, I would like to put on record my thanks to Cllr’s Cline, Sayer, Windsor & others who supported me through the weekend, as well as out of hours officer Ricky Fuller who ensured to start gathering as many details as possible from residents and making a site visit late Saturday night.

Moving forwards, an enforcement officer will be attending site tomorrow morning, and the council will be ensuring a blanket TPO & Article 4 (The Article 4 Direction means that a planning application must now be submitted for all proposed changes of use at the property to allow the council to assess the impacts that a change of use would have on the site.) will be placed on all of the remaining plots, as well as the ones that were developed and cleared yesterday.

As ever; I remain committed to protecting Chaldon & the beautiful habitats that make it so unique. Thank you for your patience & ongoing support.

A huge congratulations to Claire Coutinho PPC for retaining her seat with, after last night, a sizeable majority of 7,500 votes.

Claire you have been a fantastic MP throughout your first term & I look forward to working with you in the coming years as we endeavour to make Chaldon, Tandridge and East Surrey a better place to live for all of our residents!

Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me yesterday to continue to represent East Surrey. I am both humbled and honoured particularly considering the national results.

The election team - from the polling clerks to the dedicated folk at the count - did a brilliant job at making sure everything worked smoothly. It is a remarkable and industrious chain of humans that transforms a freshly inked box into a result for a local representative in a matter of hours.

Huge thank you to my campaign team and to everyone who supported me locally come rain (of which there was quite a lot) and shine. It means a lot to me and I am enormously proud of our team.

Overall the Labour Party have won the right to govern. These are challenging times for the country and I wish them well.

However, it is not the case that people found Labour a better option than in 2019. The result instead reflects that the Conservative Party lost many of our voters.

We must now do everything we can to rebuild that trust. It has been an unprecedented few years for the country, however I do believe there is a majority of people who want to see small c conservative principles and common sense prevail. We must rebuild the party to give those people a strong voice in Parliament. As Keith Joseph said, we must now seek the common ground not the centre ground and we must fulfil our new role as HM Opposition with grace and dedication.

It is an honour to be able to continue to serve the residents of East Surrey. I am very grateful to be given the chance to continue my work locally and to represent this wonderful seat for another term.

Delighted to announce that after a lot of work from myself, the Village Council, political and social groups across the district as well as several residents, Chaldon will remain as a single councillor ward for the foreseeable future.

I felt it was integral to the village’s past, present and future that it remained independent from the rest of Caterham.

Chaldon is a historic village and one with a significant amount of community spirit with a strong village council and sense of autonomy.

I am proud to have to been involved in this process and look forward to hopefully representing the village for many years to come.

It has been a busy few weeks here in Chaldon and I am working on several issues at the moment, including:

- Working on a submission to the Boundary Commission regarding the alterations to boundaries across the District of Tandridge.

- Defending the Greenbelt from over development, including Surrey National GC & a potential development which has been proposed on Stansted Road.

- Working with the County Councillor Jeremy Webster to improve the road surfaces within Chaldon and the surrounding wards.

I am enjoying delivering on my promises to residents, if you feel I can help please contact me on [email protected]

A fantastic day today at the Caterham Carnival.

Glad to have played a small part for a fantastic team who have worked so hard over the past year, to get this event right!

Already looking forward to helping out next year!

It has come to my attention that a full topographical survey was carried out on Surrey National Golf Club in recent weeks.

Whilst it is important not to jump to conclusions, I feel it is important that my residents are aware of this.

Please be reassured that I have a close eye on the situation, and I am optimistic of maintaining a good relationship with the management team at Surrey National.

Updates will be posted as and when I know more, if necessary.

Please share this post.
