To the residents of our community,
Following the local election on 7 May, I wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my 18 years of service as your councillor.
Although I am naturally disappointed to have lost my seat, it has been an absolute privilege and honour to represent our community for nearly two decades. I have met so many wonderful people along the way, and I will always be grateful for the trust, kindness and support you have shown me over the years.
I would especially like to thank everyone who sent lovely messages, cards, flowers, texts and good wishes following the election. Your kindness and friendship have meant more to me than words can express.
My sincere thanks also go to my election agent, campaign organisers and volunteers, whose hard work, loyalty and encouragement were invaluable throughout the campaign. I am deeply grateful to my two ward colleagues and our MP, Jane, Mohammed and Fabian Hamilton for their friendship, teamwork and support over the years, and to every resident who voted for me and placed their confidence in me once again.
During my time as a councillor, I was proud to serve on numerous committees and work on behalf of residents to help improve our community. Among the achievements I will always look back on with pride are:
• Becoming the first black Lord Mayor for the City
• The first black woman to chair Planning and to chair the Police And Crime Panel
• During my time as Lord Mayor I raised over £60.000 for Violence against women and girls.
As for ward initiatives there are so many to name. However my first initiative project was the Reginald Centre.
Public service has been one of the greatest honours of my life, and while this chapter comes to an end, my care and commitment to our community will always remain.
Thank you once again for your support, kindness and friendship over the past 18 years. It has truly been a privilege to serve you.
With sincere gratitude.
Eileen
