I am pleased to see the petition created by the Women is gathering pace. I supported this campaign during the 2024 election campaign and continue to support and it follow now.

Mediation should be the preferred route over litigation for both the Government and the 1950s Women.

"These figures show renewables are now the backbone of Britain’s power system, supplying most of our electricity for the second year running, with wind doing the heavy lifting. That matters for bills, because low‑cost renewables reduce our reliance on gas, which still sets electricity prices most of the time and is vulnerable to spikes."

With a nationwide rush by homeowners to install solar panels, we can expect to see records broken annually as we head towards 100%.

New statistics released by the Government today show that renewables generated a record 52.5% of the UK’s electricity in 2025 - the second consecutive year in which they have exceeded 50%, and an increase on the previous high of 50.4% in 2024.

Congratulations to Independent Councillor Craig Hussey who was elected as Deputy Mayor for 2026-2027. Craig is well across the town and will support Trisha O'Brien who has been given the position of Mayor.

We now begin the final year of the political term and also welcome the new Clerk Stephen Hill who has joined Chard Town Council from Honiton.
