We would like to say a BIG thankyou to Numatic , for allowing us to use their site for a training exercise recently .

This allowed both ourselves and Numatic staff to test procedures and train for a realistic scenario.

We gained some valuable knowledge from this and we look forward to working together with Numatic again in the future . 🚒🔥

The rain is coming down in Devon and Somerset, and we have had multiple calls to rescue people from vehicles trapped in floodwater today.

If you see floodwater, turn around – even shallow water can be dangerous to drive or walk through, and your vehicle can become stuck and even swept away in just 30cm of flowing water. There may also be hidden dangers, like open drains, damaged road surfaces, submerged debris, or deep channels.

There is more useful information about how to be safe in severe weather conditions in the link in the comments below.

Last Night we hosted colleagues from Ilminster Fire Station Axminster Fire Station Martock Fire Station Crewkerne Fire Station for a final farewell to our former Station Manager Jamie Dickenson who is Retiring after 32 years service in January.

Jamies fire service career began at Chard all the way back in 1993 at the Tapstone Road fire station, under Station Commander Jeff Farley.

Jamie was our Station manager for the best part of 5 years & we all wanted to give him one final send off as a thank you for his many years of absolute dedication & leadership to Us as Firefighters, the fire & rescue service, and to the communities which we serve.

SM Sasha White along with Jeff Farley presented the evening.

Happy Retirement for January, Jamie!🥳

During these current conditions as set out in the yellow & amber weather warnings by the Met office , we have seen an increase in incidents of vehicles driving through flood water .

Please see below from our website advice on how to stay safe during this weather :

‼️Respect road closure signs, whether you’re driving or walking.‼️

‼️There may be hidden dangers like open drains, damaged road surfaces, submerged debris, or deep channels. These can cause serious injuries or even death.‼️

‼️Never drive through floodwater
Don’t make unnecessary trips in bad weather conditions. You could harm yourself and others too.‼️

‼️Vehicles can become stuck and even swept away in just 30cm of flowing water.
If we attend incidents where vehicles are in floodwater, it means we are not available to help others who may be in greater danger.‼️

Stay safe.

This morning a crew from Chard took part in the towns remembrance service. Paying tribute to all who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can live freely today. We will remember them.

At someone’s worst moment, on their worst day, we have a team who calmly hold people in their care, supporting them at that time of greatest need.

24 hours a day, seven days a week, our Fire Control team work quietly and efficiently helping people at the end of the phone, getting the right resources to the scene, and staying with the incident until its conclusion.

As we celebrate International Control Room Week 2025, join us to say thank you to our Fire Control team, our unsung heroes, they are amazing – we hope you never need to know how good they are at what they do.

Chard crews have been responding to an increasing number of incidents linked to batteries being incorrectly disposed of into household waste collections. 🔋♻️🗑️

It only takes a small battery from electrical items such as a v**e or old toothbrush to cause a major fire when it gets crushed. 🔥

‼️What to do: ‼️
1. NEVER put batteries (even small ones!) in your household waste or recycling bin.

2. Find a local specialist recycling center or designated drop-off point for electricals.

Let's work together to protect our refuse workers and recycling facilities. Every battery recycled properly is a fire averted!

Please find the relevant information on our website :

Thankyou 🚒🧯🔥
