Brimstone - UXO

Brimstone - UXO Reducing UXO risks with emerging technologies and innovation. We’re shaping the future of commercial EOD through innovation, expertise and assurance.

At Brimstone UXO, we reduce the risks of unexploded ordnance (UXO) through innovation and emerging technologies — keeping people safe and projects moving. As UXO industry innovators, we combine deep technical expertise with cutting-edge solutions, including UAVs, artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced modelling. Our approach enables smarter, faster, and safer UXO risk mitigation ac

ross construction, defence, infrastructure and humanitarian sectors. Our team is made up of highly trained former British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force personnel. We deliver a full range of services, from desk-based UXO risk assessments and surveys to on-site support and UXO disposal. Brimstone is trusted by developers, government bodies, and international charities to manage risk across a wide range of complex sites, including former and active air weapon ranges. We hold a licence to acquire and store explosives and our team includes security-cleared personnel. [email protected]

This month, we’re celebrating 10 years of Brimstone UXO. To mark the occasion, we're looking back at 10 projects that shaped who we are. The sites that challenged us, pushed us to think differently, and helped define how we work today.

We're kicking off with Norman Shaw North, a Grade I listed building on the Victoria Embankment, forming part of the UK Parliamentary estate. When the client first approached us, they'd already been told by another provider that intrusive survey work wasn't feasible.

We found a way. Swipe to find out how. 👉

316 hectares. 25 days. 1,606 targets identified.

At Cleve Hill Solar Park in Faversham, the UK's largest solar farm at the time, a high water table and active agricultural land made ground-based surveying impractical. We deployed our drone instead.

Several 30mm projectiles were found at a depth of one metre. All safely disposed of, ALARP certificate issued, construction programme protected.

This 'Learning at Work Week', we're shining a light on a hidden risk that affects construction sites across the UK.

Unexploded ordnance (UXO) is more common than most people think, and knowing how to respond to a suspicious item could be the difference between a safe site and a serious incident.

Our online awareness course gives construction, development, engineering, and environmental professionals the knowledge they need to stay safe and respond with confidence.

✅ 5 in-depth modules
✅ Learn at your own pace, on demand
✅ IIRSM-approved CPD certification

This week, Brimstone teams are deploying to 30+ sites across the UK and beyond, from Lowestoft to Exeter, Barrow-in-Furness to Margate, and as far as Kaunas, Lithuania.

Intrusive and non-intrusive UXO surveys, GI support, watching briefs, safety briefings - everything's on the table this week 💪

Drone-based magnetometry surveys aren't a replacement for traditional ground-based methods, but they are a practical option for certain types of site.

Large areas, steep or uneven terrain, soft ground, locations that are difficult or slow to cover on foot. In these conditions, a drone survey can cover the site efficiently and build a consistent dataset without the constraints of ground-based equipment.

Survey is very much the flavour of the week here at Brimstone. Two rigs are working in Thames Valley, one in Manchester, and another covering Greenwich and Bishop's Stortford. Our UAV team is back in Lithuania working on a brand new project, and pushcart surveys are taking place in Littlestone and Crawley.

A busy week on the ground, and in the air 💪

8th May 1945 marked the end of the war in Europe, but its physical legacy endures.

An estimated 10% of WWII ordnance failed to detonate, and 81 years on, it continues to be uncovered on construction sites, farmland, and infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe.

On VE Day, we honour those who served and remain committed to managing this legacy safely.

When people hear "UXO survey" they sometimes picture excavations or heavy equipment on site.

On large, open greenfield sites, it's often very different. Our non-intrusive UXO surveys are designed to cover large areas efficiently. Whether by drone or pushcart, we can build a consistent dataset across the whole site with minimal ground disturbance.
