Here is an interesting article from last month reporting a Police Superintendent working at Medway Police Station being arrested for shop lifting. She was accused of stealing make up.

If she loses her job and needs work in these hard times then perhaps she could steal to order. I will have meat, cheese, razors coffee and some batteries please.

Anyway, enjoy.

Jonathan Lincoln appeared at Maidstone Crown Court As a council benefits assessor Jonathan Lincoln was well versed in dodges used by claimants to beat the system. So much so that he was able to put his knowledge at Medway Council to good use and commit benefit fraud himself.

Have you ever telephoned Medway Council to complain that you are having a problem with something in your area only to be told you are the only one complaining? A number of residents living in the ME4 area were told this by the Council when they were reporting fly-tipping. An officer of the Council (Steve Lamb) even told one complainant in a telephone conversation that there is no fly-tipping problem in their area and there has not been a problem for as long as he had worked for the Council. This got my attention so using information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act I can tell you that since January 2012 [it has been reported that] Medway Council received 845 complaints of fly-tipping in the ME4 area alone. This includes 6 reports of hazardous waste.

This information was extracted from Medway Council's records however, how much more goes unrecorded or unreported?

Anyway, if you are having issues then you can rest assured that you are not alone so please continue to complain as the message is getting through.

The map below shows the ME4 area highlighted in pink.

How is it that the streets where we live near Chatham train station and the town centre are awash with cigarette butts and litter yet someone is fined for dropping a cigarette butt on an industrial estate? There are families with young children living in very poor conditions here so surely Medway Council should patrol our area and issue penalties to those that drop litter. Sadly the condition of our residential area is far below the standards achieved in this industrial estate so what are Medway Council doing about it? They could make a killing in fines here as numerous pieces of litter including cigarette butts are dropped every hour.

Two litterbugs have been ordered to pay £430 between them after discarding ci******es in Medway streets during two separate incidents.

A blog has been set up by the residents of Rochester Street who intend to improve the area in which we all live. Please take time to check it out and contribute if you can.

I understand from other residents that Medway Council visited the owners of the dog that killed our neighbours cat in a sustained and frenzied attack. Apparently the officers were scratching their heads about what to do as the family who own the dog were "quite reasonable". Ok, this dog has been in the garden of 58 Rochester Street, Chatham all night long barking for a few weeks now and both the Police and the Council have had numerous calls reporting this. It has killed a cat and turned on the neighbour who tried to prevent the attack. It is still trying to get over the fencing that has been erected to keep it back and as soon as the Council left, the owners played loud music and antagonised the dog with a stick, encouraging it to bite. How is this reasonable?

Also, the Council have said that they have agreed with the owners that they can wait to find some scrap metal to make good of the fencing as they do not have money to buy anything!. Really, what about their Mercedes, house full of electrical goods and the head of this household is reported to be working?

Honestly, how daft must you be to get a job at Medway Council?

Well done to Mr Wilson for taking the Council on and winning. Personally I believe that the signage in Medway in general is inadequate however, I'm sure they would disagree. I wonder whether the revenue they take from fining soft targets such as motorists has anything to do with this?

Council bosses are investigating a string of sleaze and bad behaviour allegations against four top Tory councillors. KentOnline can reveal the four are facing separate accusations of bullying, kerb-crawling and disreputable behaviour in Medway. A parish councillor in Allhallows has also been accused...

Today, plans to bring investment and jobs to Medway were announced. Promises have been made before and Medway Council have failed to keep those promises (see the Medway renaissance article). After making yet another announcement of large scale investment I believe that the Council absolutely must deliver otherwise those who hold the most senior posts should be forced to quit. Lets hope they deliver this time as the Medway Towns desperately needs it

Many (many) years ago now Medway Council embarked on a journey that they believed would lead to the complete regeneration of it's towns. 20,000 new homes, 16,000 new jobs and a city to be proud of. There is some evidence that things have changed. for example, the flyover has gone (hoorah) and there is a new bus station. The down side is that if I need to nip over to the dockside outlet centre it now means I have to circumnavigate around the whole of Chatham in traffic. I don't go any more!

Anyway, all was going to plan and us residents were receiving lots of information on how wonderful everything was going to be. Millions of pounds was secured in public money and the Council boasted the value of the wider generation programme would be in the region of £6 billion and suddenly, the information stopped. Their "latest news" website has not been updated since 16 November 2010 and I'm left wondering, what is going on?

Below is a link to their renaissance site and please can someone tell me if the 15 year programme will ever be delivered?

http://www.medwayrenaissance.com/

The Medway Renaissance Programme initiated by Medway Council is set to transform the area into a city of 300,000 people over the next 20 years.
