530 STRE deployed on their annual TL-C validation exercise (CYCLONE) to RAF St Mawgan 14-28 Aug. We took 31 CMTs (Reg and ARes) to conduct live ground investigation work for the estate development plan. The team exercised in different environments such as low light, high threat and EMS denied and also worked on equipment they’ve only ever had theory lessons on (Heavy Weight Deflectometer). A very successful exercise which will lead into the laboratory based testing in the Autumn before being tested by the UKAS team.

CHIEF ROYAL ENGINEER APPOINTMENT

To be Chief Royal Engineer (CRE) by appointment of His Majesty the King, with the rank of Lieutenant General, in succession to Lieutenant General Sir Chris Tickell KBE on 31 December 2026.

Lieutenant General E N S Millar CVO MBE, currently United Kingdom Military Representative to NATO and EU.

As CRE, Lieutenant General Tickell has led the Corps through a period of significant Defence transformation. The Corps is deeply grateful for his leadership and steadfast support to everyone in the Sapper Family, guiding us through an array of institutional challenges inherent with geo-political and strategic changes over his tenure and giving us a blueprint to continue following in our strategy out to 2030 and beyond.

Corps Guest Night on Thursday 15 October 2026 will be General Tickell's last as CRE and will be used to formally dine him out.
Further details regarding the formal handover and associated engagements will be communicated in due course.

NEWS: 🗣️ We will be hosting a Veterans' Wellbeing Fair at the Royal Engineers Museum this October on World Mental Health Day.

🙌 The event is designed to promote local services supporting mental, physical, financial and social wellbeing, and you'll be able to find out more about the support available from us and a range of local partner organisations, with more than 30 already signed up to attend!

📢 Although it is aimed at veterans, serving personnel and their families – everyone is welcome to attend on the day, and entry to the museum will be FREE between 10am and 2pm.
