Chatteris Museum

Chatteris Museum Focusing on the natural & cultural heritage of Chatteris & the surrounding Fenland villages.

Chatteris Museum is now open in the former Barclays Bank at 2 Park Street, Chatteris PE16 6AE. The museum is entirely volunteer run with the collections owned by The Chatteris Museum Trust, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The concept of a town museum was conceived in 1942 by Charles Dobb, the Town Clerk for Chatteris Urban District Council, in a small display cabinet in the offices of Grov

e House, Chatteris. A Museum Society was formed in 1963 to develop the collection and open to the public. In the mid 1990s the museum moved to the former Doctor's Surgery in Church Lane, and to its current location in 2023. The museum has begun a phased re-opening and our displays will develop as we unpack over 12,000 objects. A National Lottery Heritage Fund grant has enabled redevelopment to begin telling the story of Chatteris and its people.
