Crews from Cheddar are over in South Wales this week on a National Resilience deployment with our 4x4 wildfire vehicle. They are working with colleagues from all over the country to support South Wales Fire and Rescue Service with the multiple wildfires they are experiencing.

This week at drill, Cheddar combined with Wells Fire Station to take part in an RTC scenario involving 2 cars, a cyclist and a loader.

Three casualties were simulated with various injuries and entrapments. This gave the crews a chance to get hands on with the different RTC equipment we carry and practice different extrication and casualty handling techniques

⚠️ Power Line Safety Reminder – Sharpham Road

We’d like to remind everyone of the dangers of climbing trees located near overhead power lines.
Although the trees along Sharpham Road have recently been trimmed, they can still pose a serious risk. Electricity doesn’t need direct contact — it can arc (or “jump”) to nearby objects, including tree branches and anyone climbing them.

Earlier this evening, an off-duty firefighter spoke with a group of young people who were climbing in the area. They were polite, engaged well, and took the advice on board — which was great to see 👏

Children are naturally curious and love to explore, and this should always be encouraged. However, it’s important we help them understand where there are hidden dangers, particularly around electricity infrastructure.

Please remind young people:

•Never climb trees near power lines
•Always keep well clear of electrical equipment and transformers
•If something doesn’t look safe, stay away

Last night the Cheddar crew undertook a confined space Breathing Apparatus (BA) training exercise at the leisure centre as part of our weekly drill session.

Three BA teams simulated rescuing casualties who had collapsed within the tunnels beneath the swimming pool, bringing them out to safety with limited visibility.

Thank you to Kings Fitness and Leisure for giving us access to a great training venue to help us maintain our skills.
