A glimpse into the past.

This historic 1826 plan reveals Joseph Pitt’s ambitious vision for Pittville: a spa town centred around the Pittville Pump Room, surrounded by landscaped parkland and an ornamental lake, designed to rival Cheltenham and attract health-seeking visitors.

Back in the 1920s and 30s, Pittville Pump Room was the place to be, hosting everything from badminton and tennis to swimming in the lake (for the brave).

This photograph from the 1935 Folk Dance Festival captures just one moment from an era full of costume, music, sport and community celebration in Pittville Park. A building with many lives - and many stories still to tell.
