The 'Urban Meadow Swindon' project is an initiative aimed at making the most of the green spaces on our doorstep, through the creation of wildflower habitats in urban and suburban areas across the Borough of Swindon. Rather than attempting to take on such a huge task all at once, the project's focus is upon providing positive examples of how urban grassland can be managed for wildlife in a practic
al and sustainable manner. By working with schools, children and communities on this project, we aim to spread the word and gain support for our cause by helping people to feel involved with how public space is managed, challenging current attitudes to how public spaces are managed and initiating debate on the subject. Information that will be gathered as a result of this project will be aimed at assisting in decisions relating to future urban and suburban grassland management strategies. Attention is to be paid in particular to the project's potential benefits for health, education, community and the environment, all whilst maintaining reduced spending by comparison to current amenity grassland management practice.
