⚠️ River Safety Reminder ⚠️

🛟Now the weather has improved, we’ve received several reports of children both in the river and jumping from the bridge from the Lumley new road, shown in the images below. We have also been made aware that life preservers have been removed and thrown into the water (not for any life saving purposes) Members of Friends of the Riverside have already recovered 3 life preservers from the river.

🛟These life preservers are there for emergencies and to save someone’s life if they get into difficulty in the water. Removing or damaging them puts others at serious risk.

🛟We kindly ask parents and carers to speak with their children about the dangers of playing near the river and the importance of leaving lifesaving equipment where it belongs.

🛟Please help us keep our riverside safe for everyone. We will be increasing our patrols in this area so if you see us, please come and say hello, thank you😊

🚔 Saturday Night Takeaway 🚔

🛵Following many reports of anti-social riding along the Coast to Coast route near North Lodge Chester-Le-Street, last night officers carried out patrols in the area alongside the Durham Police Off-Road Motorcycle Section and Southmoor neighbourhood policing team.

🏍️During the operation, two mopeds and one Sur-Ron bike were seized. Although the mopeds were road legal, they were being ridden illegally on the Coast to Coast route with registration plates deliberately covered with tape. All riders have been reported for road traffic offences.

🐴🚴‍♂️🐕‍🦺We are NOT spoiling people’s fun, we are protecting members of the public who use the Coast to Coast for dog walking, running, horse riding and cycling.

✋This type of behaviour puts the public at serious risk. We will continue to take proactive action to target and tackle those using vehicles irresponsibly and anti-socially.

👀Our police drone once again proved invaluable in supporting officers on the ground.

👀We can always see you👀

👮🏼‍♂️On the evening of the 6th May, between 18:00 and 19:30, PCSO Richards and PCSO Bridge from the Chester-le-Street Neighbourhood Policing Team worked alongside the Junior Volunteer Police Cadets as part of Operation Hawkeye, with support from CSC M Daniels.

🚗A total of 15 Junior Volunteer Police Cadets took part in the operation. The cadets were tasked with conducting vehicle security checks by testing car doors to identify vehicles that had been left unlocked, as well as carrying out a leaflet drop to residents to provide crime prevention advice.

👥All activities were carried out under the supervision of PCSOs and Senior Cadet Leaders Amy and Anthony.

🚘During the operation, 11 vehicles were found to be unlocked. Advice leaflets were delivered to approximately 200 homes across the two housing estates.

⭐️The cadets were enthusiastic and outstanding throughout the activity, demonstrating excellent communication skills when engaging with residents. Feedback from the community was very positive, with residents being very welcoming and appreciative of the advice provided.

👂🏼You said, we listened

👮‍♀️You may have noticed an increased police presence in Chester-le-Street today despite the poor weather.

👀Following concerns raised at recent PACT meetings regarding off-road bikes on the coast to coast track (C2C) and around Front Street, patrols were carried out with our partners including bike section (DRAP), Durham PCC, prevention and problem solving team and neighbourhood wardens as part of Operation Drive and Operation Endurance.

🚔Officers stopped a number of vehicles, spoke with motorists, and issued fixed penalty notices.

👥PCSOs also engaged with the community and carried out enquiries so thank you to everyone who spoke with us today, your input helps us keep the community safe.

🚳If you have information about off-road bike use or where bikes are being stored, please report it via 101. You can do so anonymously at crime stoppers: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/
