As work continues on the Clay Cross Town Deal, access to the Market Street car park is changing.

The existing access from Market Street will continue to serve parking for Derbyshire County Council buildings, Parish Council offices, Clay Cross Social Centre and Smithybrook View. The new access from High Street (A61) will serve our car park with no access to Market Street. Additional signage will be installed shortly to help drivers.

Thank you for your patience while we continue to improve Clay Cross town centre.

A glimpse of what’s to come!

The final touches are coming soon, transforming the pedestrianised area into a vibrant and welcoming space.

Attractive seating, landscaped planters, and carefully designed bollards will enhance both its appearance and safety.

We can’t wait to share the finished result with you!

Temporary road closure in Clay Cross

Please be aware that there will be a temporary road closure in place from Monday 15 June to Friday 26 June to allow works to take place at Broadleys.

The closure will be on the section of road between Market Street junction and the Bestwood Park mini roundabout.

We appreciate this may cause some disruption and thank you for your patience while these works are carried out. Please continue to shop local and support our businesses in Clay Cross.

There has been lots of progress on the Market St pedestrianisation in the last few weeks. The work barriers have been moving around slightly to accommodate where the construction is happening, but at all times access to the local shops remains.

Please do support your local businesses on Market Street and thank you for your patience!

Market Street improvements – businesses open as usual

We’re pleased to see good progress on Market Street in Clay Cross, with new paving now being laid in this busy shopping area.

It’s starting to take shape, and we can see how these improvements will help create a more attractive and welcoming town centre for people to visit, shop and spend time.

Thank you for your patience while the work continues.

Please remember: all businesses on Market Street remain open as usual, with pedestrian access to all shop entrances.

If you can, please continue to support your local businesses during this time – they really appreciate it.

North East Derbyshire District Council is continuing to progress the Clay Cross Town Centre Regeneration Scheme, which is a key part of long‑term plans to support the town’s economy, businesses and community.

Inside Limited has ceased carrying out works on the scheme, and contractual matters are being addressed through the appropriate processes. As these matters are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment on further detail at this stage.

The Council recognises the frustration that delays and disruption have caused for local businesses, residents and visitors, particularly in relation to Market Street. The site is secure, and the Council’s immediate focus is on ensuring public safety, maintaining traffic management and permit compliance, and managing the area responsibly while the next stages of delivery are put in place.

Active arrangements are being progressed to enable works to continue and to minimise further disruption. The Council is working proactively to ensure that the regeneration programme can move forward in a coordinated and well‑managed way.
