Quite relevant on the Wingerworth & Rural beat area.

Parents, guardians and carers, please talk to your children about the dangers of playing in or close to any open water.

“Highlighting the dangers and making sure everyone is aware can help us prevent these needless deaths.”

By following our simple advice everyone can stay safe when they are around open water. Our advice is:
• Never enter the water – no matter how inviting it may look!
• Avoid walking on routes near water if you have been drinking alcohol.
• Don’t dive or jump into open water, this can cause potentially fatal cold water shock even on the warmest day. You also don’t know what’s below the surface of the water – rocks or other hidden debris can lead to serious or fatal injuries.
• Always supervise children around water - drowning can happen fast and silently.
• If you find yourself unexpectedly in the water, don’t panic, extend your arms and legs out and float on your back until the effect of cold water shock passes.
• Never enter the water to try and rescue someone or an animal, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.

The forecast states that we are going to endure a ‘hot’ period and temperatures are going to hit the high 20’s over the next few days.

Common sense really, please be mindful if you are planning a trip out in your car, shopping etc. it’s just not enough to leave a window ajar for your dog, or even your children.

Heat in vehicles can kill ! ☀️☀️

Good morning

Our Facebook posts are managed and posted by your local Safer Neighbourhood Teams. These often consist of work in the community which vary from Speed Monitoring, Community Catchups and Street Meets, to name a few.

We often review your comments and gauge your perception of our work.
We understand that some of our decisions are not popular, including our latest post regarding the seizure of an e-scooter.
The police have a duty of care and each incident is judged on its own merit.
On this occasion, all necessary safeguarding has been put into place and parents are fully supportive of our actions.

Some comments on this latest post have been positive however, most have been of a negative nature.

We would like you to think for a moment… what would you do in this situation ?
Our main concern at the time was for the ‘preservation of life’, due to the age of the male in question.

Some of our purposes and priorities include

Making Derbyshire Safer Together

Fighting Crime

Service To The Public

Responsive And Visible Policing

We do welcome your comments on all our posts but we would also like you to see the bigger picture.

Our officers will continue to do the right thing and remove e-scooters from our streets as this is not only a priority for Safer Neighbourhood Teams, but also a priority raised by you the public.

Another one bites the dust in Wingerworth !

Section 165 No Insurance.

If you are parents that are allowing your child to ride an e -scooter, then you really need to consider your decisions.

e-scooters are not only dangerous, they are illegal.

| Officers made a number of arrests as part of a dedicated operation to target thieves and other suspected criminals in north east Derbyshire.

Operation Intake was run across last week - Monday 11 May to Sunday 17 May – following a rise in home burglaries, shed break-ins, car and bike thefts.

Officers acted upon information given to us by the public to deliver patrols, enforcement and engagement with the public in order to target suspected criminals.

The week of action resulted in the arrest of 12 people for a range of offences including theft, drug driving, possession of an offensive weapon and drugs possession.

A Nissan failed to stop for officers in Grassmoor and following a short pursuit the vehicle was stung and boxed in by the Roads Policing Unit late on Monday 11 May. A 31-year-old woman was arrested for drug driving.

The same day, the Roads Policing Unit stopped a Ford Transit van in Heath and arrested the driver on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone from Tesco Petrol Station in Clay Cross.

Bernard McDonagh (33) of Whiteleas Avenue, North Wingfield, pleaded guilty to stealing a mobile phone and making off without paying for fuel during an appearance at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 13 May.

He was given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for 26 months, and handed a restraining order not to contact the victim or to enter the Tesco Petrol Station in Clay Cross for the next two years.

Officers from the Force Proactive Team and Dog Section stopped a vehicle in Trevorrow Crescent, Chesterfield, in the early hours of Tuesday 12 May following intelligence that the driver may be involved in drug dealing.

A burner phone containing messages relating to the supply of drugs was discovered. The driver was taken to a police station and a large quantity of suspected crack co***ne was also found on him.
The 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply crack co***ne.

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT), Neighbourhood Acquisitive Crime Teams (NACT) and Neighbourhood Enforcement Team (NET) carried out increased patrols in order to build up intelligence on suspects, for public reassurance and to issue crime prevention advice to residents.

Our cadets were out in force to support with leaflet drops giving crime prevention advice around Killamarsh, Eckington and Wingerworth.

Force proactive and operational support teams worked together with the dogs unit to carryout additional patrols along the M1, A617 and A61 – all of which are main corridor routes in and out of the north of the county.

Officers observed a motorbike with suspected fake number plates joining the M1 at junction 30 and driving dangerously at over 120mph.

The rider and their pillion passenger evaded police during a pursuit before crashing the suspected stolen Yamaha motorbike in Clowne.

They ran off into some woods but officers managed to catch up with one of the suspects.

An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were both arrested on suspicion of theft, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

Detective Inspector Nikki Gray said: “Dedicated operations like this give us an opportunity to really highlight to the public how different policing teams are continually working together in order to keep our communities safe.

“Op Intake yielded some excellent results in which a number of suspects were arrested and are now in the process of being brought to justice.

“We are aware of the issues around theft and burglary in the north eastern part of the county and I would like to encourage members of the public to keep reporting crimes and highlighting issues with us.

“This key information helps to inform our patrol strategies and where and when we deliver targeted operations on top of our day-to-day work to keep people safe.

“Op Intake is a prime example of how we do listen to the feedback of the public and take action.

“Our blend of high-visibility policing, crime prevention work and investigative knowhow will continue and we remain committed to tackling the issues that matter the most to the people of Derbyshire.”

Hello all,

The work done by Derbyshire Constabulary together with local agencies and services to tackle knife crime is being showcased this week as part of a national week of action.

Op Sceptre is run by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC), and is a chance for teams to speak to local communities, deepen their ongoing conversations about knife crime and remind people of the work we’re doing day-to-day to keep knife crime out of the county. Over the course of the week, you'll see officers all over the county taking part in a range of operations and activity. This includes visiting schools and delivering inputs to both late-primary and secondary students, as well as hosting pop-up stalls in colleges across the county.

There will also be knife sweeps conducted, where officers scan parks and recreational spaces for weapons, sometimes with the help of a metal detectors. As well as this, our Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be around hosting a number of events in your local communities, where you can speak to them and find out more.

On our social media channels, you will see content which we’ve collaborated on with our partners at Chesterfield Football Club and Street Doctors – sharing their real life experiences and advice when it comes to the realities of knife crime and creating a sense of belonging for young people.

Amnesty bins, a key feature of Op Sceptre, will also be placed at locations across the county to allow people to hand in their unwanted knives. You can find the locations of these on our website.

As well as this highly visible work, teams will also continue to gather intelligence and target offenders behind-the-scenes, as well as prevent incidents from happening.

Superintendent Lyndsey Curtis, from Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “Whilst thankfully it is only the minority of people that feel it is acceptable to carry a knife, this week is an important opportunity to highlight the year-round prevention work we are doing to keep it this way.

“We are all too aware of the tragic consequences of carrying a knife and the devastating ripple effect that this can have across our communities, and will not stop our work to combat this. A big part of this week is dispelling myths as well. For example, we know that those who carry a knife are more likely to be victims themselves, and rather than keeping them safe, carrying a knife actually puts them in greater danger. Involvement in knife crime often forms part of wider criminality too, so it is crucial that we put preventative measures in place as early as possible.

“We also work very closely with our partner agencies who can advise and encourage young people to think about their behaviours and signpost them to organisations who can educate them and offer a diversion from crime. Not only will officers be working in a visible way, but they will continue to work behind the scenes, too, gathering intelligence and targeting offenders, as well as preventing incidents from happening.”
