On 13th February, FF Wookey successfully completed training school as part of a cohort who graduated on 13 February 2026 after an intensive training programme.

Over several weeks, recruits undertook a broad range of core training competencies, including RTC training, breathing apparatus (BA), hot fire and cold smoke exercises, alongside essential operational skills. The commitment and determination shown throughout training demonstrated their readiness to join operational teams across the Service.

William is now part of the crew as an on-call firefighter, responding to real incidents via pager. He will spend the next two years in a probationary period, working alongside his role map to complete and sign off key elements of the job.

We’d also like to congratulate FF Rowlands on successfully passing his Emergency Response Driving Course 👏🚒

After undertaking two weeks of intensive driving back in February, he has demonstrated the skill, focus, and professionalism required to pass this challenging intense course.

He is now qualified to respond to emergency calls under blue lights — a vital role in helping us reach those in need as quickly and safely as possible.

We’re delighted to congratulate Crew Manager Wain on successfully passing all elements of the promotion process 👏

After completing each stage with dedication and professionalism, Tom has now also passed his final stage, the interview last week — a fantastic achievement!

Tom will now step into his new role as a substantive Crew Manager at Chew Magna On-Call. We’re incredibly proud of his hard work and commitment, and we wish him every success in this next chapter of his career 🚒

Last night we were mobilised as a make pumps 10 for water and Grass beaters in the Priddy pool area to assist Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, crews used Light portable pumps along with multiple grass beaters and respirators to surround the Fire leaving it extinguished around 20:35.

🚒 Calling Local Door Companies – Can You Support Your Chew Magna On-Call Firefighters? 🔧

We’re the on-call crew here in Chew Magna, and we’re looking for any local door installation companies who would be willing to let us come to your premises to practise our gain-entry techniques.

We specifically want to train using our lock-snapper tool, and we’re hoping to work on old, damaged or scrap doors you may have on-site.

This training helps us respond more effectively and safely during real emergencies — so any support would be hugely appreciated. 🚑

Today, we remember Firefighter Fleur Lombard QGM, who was killed in the line of duty 30 years ago. Fleur was just 21 years old when she died while fighting a serious fire at a supermarket in Staple Hill.

Her incredible bravery was recognised with the Queen’s Gallantry Medal and the Chief Fire Officer’s Commendation. In 2024, her legacy was further honoured with the Elizabeth Emblem, presented by His Majesty The King.

This afternoon, our Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Matt Cook alongside Fleur's family, serving firefighters and retired colleagues will lay wreaths at Fleur’s memorial in her honour. At 1:04 pm, the rest of the Service will observe a minute of silence as a mark of respect. Fleur’s dedication continues to inspire us all.
