📢 Hunston Summer Quiz Night – Cancelled 📢

It is with great disappointment that we have had to cancel the Hunston Summer Quiz Night scheduled for Friday 26th June due to a lack of interest and support from local residents.

The Events Committee would like to thank those who had expressed an interest in attending. Unfortunately, the number of bookings received was not sufficient to make the event viable.

This is extremely disappointing for everyone involved in organising the event. Many hours of voluntary work go into planning, promoting and delivering community events, all with the aim of bringing residents together and providing enjoyable activities within the village.

Sadly, the lack of support for community events over the past few years has become an increasing concern. If this trend continues, there is a real possibility that future events may no longer be organised, resulting in the village losing opportunities for residents to come together and enjoy local social activities.

We hope residents will take a moment to consider the value these events bring to our community and support future initiatives wherever possible.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support local events and the volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to make them happen.

**UPDATE**

We would like to provide a brief update following the incident at the shop earlier this week.

Many of you have been asking how Alpesh is doing and checking in on us, and we are incredibly grateful for all of your messages, support, and well wishes.

Many people have also been asking for an update. We have been informed that the man involved has been released on bail, and that the case is likely to proceed to court.

The Chichester Observer has published an article on the incident, which states:

"The man, a British national of no fixed address, was arrested for racially-aggravated public order and assault against the sub postmaster, theft, criminal assault against a member of the public, assaulting two emergency workers and possession of cannabis."

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out to us, checked on our staff and family, and offered their support during what has been a difficult and upsetting time.

A special thank you once again to the members of the public who stepped in to help, those who stopped to make sure everyone was safe, and the brave individuals who assisted in detaining the offender until the police arrived. Your actions and support will never be forgotten.

While it was a distressing experience, it has reminded us just how lucky we are to be part of such a caring, UNITED, and supportive community.

🙏 A MASSIVE THANK YOU 🙏

This afternoon, we experienced a very upsetting incident in the shop when a suspected shoplifter was approached and the situation quickly escalated, resulting in my husband, Alpesh, being physically and racially assaulted .

We would like to say a huge thank you to our incredible customers and to the people passing by in their cars who stopped to help, assist, and check on Alpesh and our staff. Your kindness and support meant so much to us.

A very special thank you goes to the three amazing men who stepped in without hesitation to help Alpesh and assist in detaining the offender until the police arrived. It was discovered that the man was carrying a knife in his pocket, so this situation could have ended very differently. We are incredibly grateful for your bravery and willingness to help.

We would also like to thank Karen and our lovely customer Tanya (who naturally are very shaken by the incident), for remaining calm under pressure and acting quickly by calling for help and contacting the police.

The individual has since been arrested for physical and racial assault.

Today reminded us just how fortunate we are to be part of such an amazing, caring, and united community. We truly have the best customers, friends, and neighbours around us. Thank you for not only looking out for our shop, but for looking out for us as well.

We will never forget the support shown to us today.

📢 Hunston Grub Club – Thursday 25th June 📢

The next Grub Club will be taking place on Thursday 25th June, and we would love to see more local residents come along and support this fantastic community initiative.

For just £5, you will receive a bag of mixed food items, offering excellent value while helping to reduce food waste and support our local community.

Unfortunately, the Parish Council has advised that this may be the last Grub Club in Hunston unless we see an increase in the number of people using the service. We would hate to lose such a valuable resource.

Every pound raised goes straight back into our community, helping to support local projects and initiatives.

Please spread the word to friends, family, and neighbours within Hunston and North Mundham Parish, and come along on Thursday 25th June to help keep Grub Club going in Hunston.

Recently, we were visited by a National Lottery mystery shopper, and our staff member Karen served them completely unknowingly.

We're pleased to say that Karen passed the test by correctly following the rules and ensuring that the customer did not exceed the 10 scratchcard limit per person, per day. This limit is now law and has been introduced to help promote responsible gambling and reduce the risk of excessive play.

We're incredibly proud of Karen for staying professional, following procedures, and helping us maintain the highest standards of responsible retailing.
