You can take the worry out of summer storms by keeping a few things handy in case of power cuts or flooding.

Power cuts are possible in some areas. Don’t forget to switch off any electrical appliances that shouldn’t be left unattended but to leave on a light, so you know as soon as the power comes back on. Find some useful advice through the links in the comment section.

Important information for food businesses! We were recently made aware of an individual making contact with a food business in our district on various occasions, claiming to be an Environmental Health Officer and asking for payment to carry out a food hygiene inspection.

We want to reassure you that Chichester District Council does not work with third party companies to carry out inspections or revisits, and we do not share information with these companies. Our officers always carry CDC identification and we will never charge you for a routine food hygiene inspection. The only exception is where we charge for a Food Hygiene Rating Revisit but this can ONLY be paid for by going to our website. We never take any form of payment at an inspection.

Generally speaking, our inspections are always unannounced, unless you are a domestic premises (where we must give 48 hours’ notice) or you operate ad hoc hours where we may contact you to make an appointment.

If you ever have any concerns about the authenticity of the officer that has turned up, then please contact us on 01243 534602 so we can verify this for you.

in the district this week?

The Festival of Flowers at Chichester Cathedral returns from Wednesday 3 June until Saturday 6 June for its 30th anniversary. This much-loved event will see the Cathedral transformed by more than 50,000 blooms in a spectacular celebration of colour, scent and creativity.

The South Downs Food Festival returns to Stansted Park on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June, bringing a spectacular weekend of food, drink, and celebration.

On Sunday 7 June, previous winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Musician of the year, John McCusker, will be leading the John McCusker Trio in a rich tapestry of original compositions, traditional melodies, and contemporary folk songs at the Old Orchard AKA Southbourne Village Hall.

⏰ Time’s running out! Our Let’s Talk Dogs in Public Spaces consultation closes soon!

👉 Have your say on our proposals to extend and update our Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) by visiting the link in the comments before 5pm on Friday 5 June.

ℹ️ Rules covering dog fouling, exclusion areas, and where dogs must be kept on a lead in public spaces are set out in a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). These apply to areas such as footpaths and verges, parks, and children’s play areas. They help ensure everyone can enjoy our beautiful open spaces and beaches, while also protecting local wildlife and supporting responsible dog ownership.
