🚗 Speed Indicator Device (SID) update - Lidsey Road, Woodgate

The latest traffic data has been recorded on Lidsey Road (southbound from the railway crossing) over a 10-day period from 31 March to 10 April.

This location continues to record the highest speeds in the parish.

Key findings:
• Average daily traffic: 5,317 vehicles
• 85% of vehicles were travelling up to 33.5mph
• Between 27% and 31% of vehicles exceeded the 30mph limit (around 1 in 4 to 1 in 3)
• The highest recorded speed was in the 70-75mph bracket, at 17.45hrs on Sunday 5th April

This may well be the result of traffic ‘escaping’ from the railway gates and seeing the 50mph zone not far ahead.

The Parish Council will continue to monitor the situation, including reviewing traffic in the opposite direction at a future date.

SID has now moved to Nyton Road (B2233) near the petrol station, where further data will be collected.

Remember to give him a wave if he gives you a smile! ☺️

Antisocial Behaviour in Westergate and Woodgate

It’s disappointing to share that there have been instances of antisocial behaviour recently in Westergate and Woodgate. This is something new in our generally peaceful community, and we’re asking for your help in reporting any incidents to Sussex Police.

There have been increased reports of shoplifting from local retailers - in at least one case involving physical violence towards staff. We’ve also been made aware of damage to private vehicles and substance misuse in quieter areas of the parish.

This is not something we’re used to in our community, and with your help we can return to normal as quickly as possible.

We’re not asking anyone to put themselves at risk or get involved directly. But if you witness anything, please report it - it’s quick and straightforward.

You can report antisocial behaviour online, or call 101. Every report helps build a clearer picture and ensures the police can respond appropriately and see where they might need to devote their resources.

👉 Report here:
https://www.sussex.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/

It’s really important that all incidents are reported so the full scale of the issue is understood. Thank you for your support.

In an emergency, or if someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.

Report antisocial behaviour by using our simple online reporting tool.
