The Apuldram Centre

The Apuldram Centre Horticulture, craft, woodwork, cookery & supported living for adults with learning disabilities. The Apuldram Centre is a registered charity formed in 1989.

The main aim is to provide meaningful day care to adults with learning disabilities, thus allowing our clients to achieve their full potential with help and encouragement towards a greater degree of independence, without removing the shield of care and support they require to lead full and independent lives. The centre is focused on integrating the tenants into the local community wherever possibl

e using community based projects and employment opportunities. Apuldram is a very relaxed and informal family orientated organisation that puts the care of clients at the forefront of objectives, whilst at the same time realising that finance and business opportunities are an important factor in being able to offer the best support. The centre is open 5 days a week, with our shop open to the public from 9am - 4:00pm (Tuesday - Saturday). Our main departments are:
Horticulture. Tenants work both in the outside vegetable garden, glasshouses and polytunnels; all the seasonal produce is sold in the shop. Kitchen. Working in the kitchen tenants learn cooking and domestic and life skills. The cakes, pastries, jams and chutneys are sold in the shop. Contract Gardening. Apuldram provide a contract gardening service throughout Chichester and the surrounding area. If you are interested please contact us on 01243 783370. Woodwork. Within the woodwork barn Apuldram make a variety of items, including bird tables, planters, animal hutches and at Christmas time, reindeers. The tenants under, supervision, also take on commissions to refurbish and restore furniture. Produce is sold from the site as well as at local fairs and community markets. Art and Crafts. Tenants who attend Arts and Crafts sessions are encouraged to use a variety of media to explore their creative potential. During these sessions they use paint, drawing materials, papier-mache and modelling compounds to produce hyphenated: three-dimensional projects.

🎨Exciting news: Our Trainee art is being featured in a new exhibition!🎨

Running for two weeks from 31 March to 12 April, the exhibition – titled “The Art of Living” at the Oxmarket Gallery, Chichester has been organised by the Apuldram Centre, a Chichester-based charity supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, along with Stonepillow, The Aldingbourne Trust and Chichester College.

The exhibition brings together the four local organisations with local art societies in Chichester and Oxmarket Gallery themselves.

In total, 49 pieces of artwork created by individuals supported by Apuldram Centre will be on display, including a range of paintings and sculptures. Many of the artists have been developing their creative skills for years, using art as a way to express themselves and build independence.

As part of the project, individuals supported by the Centre have also taken part in woodwork sessions to create bespoke frames for their artwork, further enhancing their skills and sense of ownership over the exhibition.

The theme, “The Art of Living”, reflects the role creativity plays in helping individuals set meaningful goals, develop confidence, and engage with the world around them. Members of the public will have the opportunity to purchase artwork, with proceeds going directly to the artists as well as supporting the participating charities.

Rory Massey, CEO of the Apuldram Centre, said: “This exhibition is a powerful celebration of the creativity and individuality of the people we support. Art has long been an important part of life at the Apuldram Centre, helping individuals to build confidence, develop practical skills, and express themselves in meaningful ways.

“Being able to showcase their work in a professional gallery setting is incredibly special. It not only highlights the talent of our artists but also helps challenge perceptions and demonstrate what people with learning disabilities can achieve when given the right opportunities.

“We’re proud to be working alongside Stonepillow, The Aldingbourne Trust and Chichester College on this exhibition, and we’re grateful to Promedica24 for their support in helping bring it to life.”

Running for two weeks from 31 March to 12 April the event is sponsored by live-in homecare provider Promedica24 West Sussex.

We were thrilled to join forces with Oxmarket Contemporary, a registered charity that brings artists and the public together in the heart of Chichester. The intention of this collaboration was to spread a little extra love over this months Valentine’s Day celebrations. Designs created by our trainees were featured in their shop and it made for a fantastically rewarding creative project for us all to be involved with.

As well as being able to pay the artists for their work, any additional profits from sales will support Oxmarket Contemporary’s charitable activities, helping the gallery continue to provide free access to exhibitions, support local artists, and deliver community and schools programmes across Chichester.

The Valentine’s collaboration will continue to be on display at Oxmarket Contemporary throughout February until it is snapped up, giving visitors the chance to discover a heartfelt gift that supports local charities and the people behind them. ❤️💛💙
