Kat, our regular volunteer, made tasty energy ball snacks with some of the children today consisting of oats, dates, chocolate powder and maple syrup (recipe hopefully to follow soon in a simple recipe book for you to try at home!) The children enjoyed measuring, scooping, pouring, mixing, rolling and talking about food that gives them energy! Thank you Kat for providing an exciting cooking experience for our children ♥️

What a lovely last day of holiday club! We spent the morning planting tomatoes, discussing how to look after plant and what plant we have growing in the garden at home. This was a lovely learning experience for the children and good way to learn about life cycles! 🍅
In the afternoon we went on an adventure to Florence park, walking safely along the path and looking both ways before crossing the road. At the park the children got to explore the climbing frame, swings, slide and music wall!

We had a wonderful holiday club and look forward to seeing everyone next week!

What an exciting day we’ve had! We started our day washing cars in soapy water, which led to a discussion about bubbles and how they’re made. The children helped to make their own bubble mixture and then used tennis rackets to make big bubbles in the garden! 🫧

In the morning the children also made their own pizza dough, they poured in flour, yeast and water then independently mixed it. In the afternoon they were able to roll out their dough, commenting “sticky”, “tough” and “squashy” to describe what it felt like. The children then chose their own ingredients to personalise their pizza ready to take home with them!🍕

Holiday club so far has been so hot! We’ve been finding ways to stay cool in the hot weather☀️ Today the children have been playing ball games in the shade, they loved using rackets to hit bean bags in to a basket! We’ve also enjoyed using the Orchard Toys games where the children can use their critical thinking skills to complete puzzles and compete against each other to find matching pairs!

But our favourite activity today was making our own smoothies, the children independently chopped up fruit and blended the fruit together! 🍓🍌

It’s been such a sunny first day in holiday club! ☀️ The children enjoyed making a den in the shade to keep cool, there were lots of discussions about what our den needed. We had to make it nice and homely, some children collected up flowers to go make our den smell nice, whilst others collected sticks to make a pretend camp fire. Whilst searching the garden we found a snail! 🐌The children watched in awe as the snail slid out of its shell and slithered across the log. This then prompted a bug hunt, the children got so much joy out of lifting the logs to see if they could match any of the bugs to their pictures. 🐞🐛🐜I wonder what new fun tomorrow will bring!

Everyone in the Up to 3s’ has loved seeing some nicer weather this week. One child noticed that the leaves were starting to grow back on the tree in our garden which lead to a lovely conversation about how plants need the sun in order to grow. To develop this interest we decided to do some planting. The children were so keen to take part in planting strawberries. Everyone took it turns to fill the plant bed with soil and carefully add our seeds, giving them a water to help them along their way. We can’t wait to care for our plants and to watch them grow! 🍓🌱💦

We are extremely grateful for our visit from Sussex police yesterday morning☺️ They spoke to the children about what they do and brought along some equipment and uniform for the children to look at and try on. Some children even had their finger print taken and lots enjoyed sitting in the car learning what the controls and buttons do. This has inspired lots of conversations, sharing story books and police role play since, where the children have explored what it means to be a police officer 🚔👮‍♀️

This week in the up to 3s’ the children have been exploring transporting! They have loved using different resources such as bags, jugs, spoons, buckets and lots more to move objects around the environment, we have seen this a lot when the children have been playing in the water tray or using the play-dough in the role play area.

Transporting is a lovely way for children to learn about weight, positioning, where things belong and developing their gross motor skills!

A wonderful visit from the Mobile Library today 📚
The children loved climbing aboard, exploring the shelves, and choosing books to share back at nursery. A lovely way to inspire a love of books and reading! 💛
