Coronavirus (COVID-19)

To ALL Essex Residents,
In a move to slow the current rates of infection across our county, from Saturday,
Essex will be placed into the high level of restrictions (tier 2 on the new COVID
system).
What does this mean?
No household mixing indoors – this includes at home or in hospitality venues
Different households can meet outdoors in public spaces but must stick to the 'Rule
of six'
10pm curfews will remain in place for all pubs and restaurants
Remember hands, face and space
Reduce travel where you can
If we act now, we can stop the spread and protect our loved ones as we head into
the winter months.
Detailed information on the new guidelines is available here:
www.essex.gov.uk/coronavirus
#StaySafeEssex
Please be advised, the Government’s decision applies to the Essex County Council
area and NOT the #Southend and #Thurrock Council areas.

Today is Global Handwashing Day. Washing your hands is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and others from illnesses such COVID-19.

Ever wondered why we recommend washing your hands for 20 seconds? Watch this video and you'll see:

Rex and Dex ride again.

Pc Ross Ashcroft unleashed (literally) the dynamic duo again over the weekend, when a suspect assaulted an Epping police officer before making off over hedges and fences.

Loughton Lpt soon swarmed all over the area and shut down any possible routes of escape for this criminal.

Pd Rex was first into the fray and in record time had located ,flashed his pointy sparklers and cornered the suspect.

Suspect arrested, good job.

Where's Pd Dexter?

Meanwhile Dex was in an adjoining garden doing what he does best, having located a quantity of drugs that the suspect had thrown away while running!!

Much paw bumping and yet another ulti-mutt performance from the doggy duo.

Clever boys.

Essex Coronavirus Action

So our last post was the official announcement and press release from local government and MPs about a request for Essex to be moved to ‘Tier 2’ in the Coronavirus alert system. Now, this is Essex Coronavirus Action talking.

We get why a lot of you are anxious, upset, or even angry about this. For many of you, this will be about as welcome as a fart in a lift, but deep down there is one simple reason why we are supporting this, and it has nothing to do with big important people ordering us to do so in big scary Zoom conversations.

R numbers across Essex are moving in the wrong direction. Hospitalisations with Covid-19 are moving in the wrong direction. ICU admissions with Covid-19 are moving in the wrong direction.

As you have all probably realised by now, during this pandemic Essex has been trying to do things a little bit differently by mixing traditional communications with a collaboration involving Facebook admins who have a track history of ‘hell raising’ on this platform.

One of our guys got Rage Against The Machine to the Christmas Number One spot in 2009 to knock Simon Cowell off his perch, and another member of our team started a joke rumour about Southend Pier being sold to a Chinese shipping company for demolition that gained so much momentum that a Southend Borough Council ‘full council’ session started with the mayor having to reassure the public that it wasn’t true. These are not your usual suspects for vital public health messaging.

Now, once again, Essex is thinking outside of the box and refusing to wait for Central Government to take action by spotting the ‘flashing dashboard warnings’ now and asking Matt Hancock and Co. to act before Essex becomes a candidate for ‘Tier 3,’ let alone ‘Tier 2.’

It’s a gamble, albeit a calculated one, and the good people of Essex have their part to play as well by following social distancing guidelines, washing hands as much as possible, wearing a face mask when required to do so, and strictly following the instructions to self-isolate if necessary.

If we can all come together and pull this off, Essex will be forever known as the county that took the bull by the horns and kicked Covid-19 square in the knackers, and not just the global epicentre of fake tan, massive satellite dishes and jam.

Essex, we want to clear something up. ⬇️

Essex County Council will not receive any extra funding by moving the county into 'High Level' restrictions.

We want to act now to slow the spread quicker.

We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a collision in which a male cyclist sadly died.
Officers were called to reports of a collision between a Vauxhall Zafira and a cyclist on the A414 in #NorthWeald at the junction with Vicarage Lane at around 5.20am on Thursday 8 October.
Paramedics, the air ambulance and our officers attended but sadly the cyclist, a 33-year-old man from Takeley, died at the scene.
The road was closed for a significant time while officers carried out an examination of the scene.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision and would like to hear from the drivers of two vehicles who were seen to travel through the scene of the crash immediately afterwards. Both vehicles were travelling in the direction of Harlow.
Anyone with information about the collision or the driver of either vehicle who passed through the scene is asked to contact officers at Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101.

Just to explain what’s been announced today in slightly different terms:

TIER 1 - The actions you take now will not only affect the health of you and your loved ones, but also the health of everyone around you in everyday life.

TIER 2 - The actions you take now will not only affect the health of you and your loved ones, but also the health of everyone around you in everyday life.

TIER 3 - The actions you take now will not only affect the health of you and your loved ones, but also the health of everyone around you in everyday life.

‘IT’S ONLY.’ This is a phrase that we’re sick and tired of hearing at the moment. ‘It’s only the flu’ is bad enough, but now we have ‘it’s only 60 people in every 100,000.’

Here’s the thing. This sort of statistic sounds absolutely minuscule and insignificant at first, BUT what about when the same statistic for any given area becomes ‘it’s only 110 people in every 100,000?’ Before we know it, we see ‘it’s only 200 people in every 100,000.’

This is happening wherever we are seeing an
R Number of more than 1 - this means that every single person with Coronavirus is expected to pass it on to more than one other person. In other terms to quote a famous tune, with an R Number higher than 1, the only way is up, baby.

Basically, what we are trying to say is that ‘it’s only’ is both misleading and actually dangerous if the R Number is greater than 1. However, if we all make an effort to follow the guidelines and kick Covid-19 right in the family jewels, the R Number will fall below 1, the virus will shrink, and then maybe ‘it’s only’ will actually have some meaning.

Please be aware that the “1 metre +” concept means it is possible to be 1 metre away from someone outside your household instead of 2 metres, AS LONG AS THERE'S ANOTHER MITIGATING FACTOR IN PLACE, such as a screen, face-coverings, or hand-washing facilities in close proximity. If one of these factors is not in place the rule remains at keeping 2m apart

Unfortunately, this is the second time I have had to highlight the growing rubbish problem in the Ongar Nature Reserve. Only needs a bin (and hopefully the rubbish producers to do the decent thing).
