Great work Cllr Emma Walker 🤩👏❤️

An absolute privilege to be invited tonight to the inaugural Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Awards held in the Speakers House in Parliament. My invitation to this event is a national acknowledgment of my work to protect women and girls and to end violence against women in all its forms.

I am really pleased that my work in this area is being recognised and I will continue doing everything possible to protect women and girls across our borough of Chorley, particularly Chorley North West and in our town centre. I am proud to be working with our Council, Police and Cabinet Members to drive the protection of women in Chorley to the top of our fantastic agenda. This involves the safety of women and girls, support and protection against abusers and perpetrators, and educating, largely men and boys, on their behaviours towards women. Plus many more initiatives I am leading on.

An extra special evening having our own MP, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, hosting this event, highlighting his commitment to this cause too. It was great to see the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire be nominated for an award following the introduction of the NailDomesticAbuse Campaign, aimed to increase the awareness and understanding of domestic abuse amongst the beauty industry. We are incredibly lucky to work with a Police and Crime Commissioner who has such a commitment to tackling VAWG.

Combating VAWG must remain a top priority, with cross‑party support, so that the responsibility to protect women and girls is embedded in every decision we make, both locally and nationally.

(Coincidentally happened to fall on a controversial day in British politics 🫣)

Quite a blustery day for yesterday’s Community Litter Pick, and we managed to avoid the rain!

A huge thank you 🤩 to our fabulous volunteers who joined me this week - Judith Seed and Cllr Michelle Beach. 3 bags of rubbish cleared from Clayton Brook shops area, and playground 🙌🏼 Not quite as much ground covered as there was sadly a lot of litter, so we are planning to carry on in the same area next week, meeting at Meadow Bank, Meadow Lane.

If you’d like to get involved in looking after our spaces, we’d love to see you! We meet every Tuesday at 1pm for 1 hour (weather permitting), and all equipment is provided 💚

A genuinely kind man - Sir Lindsay Hoyle leads the tributes to former Chorley Mayor Tommy Gray 💔💔

It is deeply saddening to hear of the passing of our loved colleague and friend Tommy Gray following a short illness. Tommy served the residents of Euxton as a Chorley Councillor for many years and all residents of Chorley as Mayor for the civic year of 2023 to 2024. He was a hard working Councillor who cared deeply for the residents of Euxton and was without doubt one of the nicest people in local politics. He will be sadly missed and our hearts and thoughts go out to his family. RIP Tommy ❤️🌹😢
