Gardening For Wildlife is going well at the Library: bilberry bumblebee (blurrily) photographed enjoying the pollinator friendly flowers. We’re very excited to have been visited by this species - rare in some parts of the UK! 🌺 🐝

This beautiful library book, The Bee Spotter's Guide by Dave Goulson helped us to identify our bilberry bumblebee! πŸ“š

❗Service interruption - Saturday 30 May - Tuesday 2 June❗

The supplier of our library system has had to carry out some urgent maintenance work so things might be a bit wonky for the next few days, both in branch and online.

You'll still be able to borrow and return items at the library, but other services may not be working quite as they should, or might take a bit longer than usual - we're not sure to what extent we'll be affected yet. If you're planning to visit the library for something specific, we'd recommend getting in touch to check what's working, before making a special trip.

Additionally, there won't be any automated emails sent during this time, but staff will get in touch about reservations that are ready to collect.

Thanks for bearing with us 🐻

This year in Gardening Club we're gardening for wildlife.

These beautiful flowers perfect for pollinators were all picked from in and around our library planters this morning.

If your little ones would like to get involved, come and help Tim tomorrow at the library from 2pm - you will even get to take home something to bring more wildlife into your own green spaces.

You may have spotted something quite exciting happening at the library on Monday πŸ‘€

Workers were busy installing 6 swift bricks at the library! Swift bricks provide a long-lasting solution to the provision of nest sites. They are sealed off nesting units that replicate the type of gap a swift looks for in a wall. In the UK the Common Swift (Apus apus) has declined by nearly 70% within the last 30 years and urgent action is needed to help them.

Many thanks to Julie for her enthusiasm and funding for the Swifts in the Strettons project. Find out more about the Strettons Area Community Wildlife Group here @997561663440758 and here https://orlo.uk/ZKDEs
