In 2024 more than £11m was lost by British travellers to fraud. The average loss per victim was £1,844.💷

Many travellers proudly post boarding passes or sunny airport selfies on social media, unaware that the barcode printed on those documents can be easily scanned by criminals.

This seemingly harmless snap can give fraudsters all they need to hack into airline accounts, steal personal data or launch highly targeted phishing attacks that are far more convincing than generic spam.

In the worst cases, people risk identity theft or future scams tailored precisely to their travel habits and personal information.

We’re proud to be a disability confident employer and want people to feel confident applying for roles with us.

Recently, we received some wonderful feedback from an employment advisor supporting a young autistic candidate through an interview with one of our partner councils.

They shared that the interview panel created “a calm, supportive environment” and used “structured, conversational questions”, helping the candidate feel more at ease and able to express themselves confidently.

The advisor said: “For the first time, I saw him respond with real confidence and ease. He left the interview feeling positive, proud and understood.”

We’re also delighted that the candidate was successful in securing the role.

This feedback is a powerful reminder that small, thoughtful adjustments can make a meaningful difference and help people show their true potential. If you have a disability and meet the minimum criteria for a role, you’re guaranteed an interview through the disability confident scheme.

“Gems at the heart of our communities”

Cotswold district councillors have come together unanimously to stand up for local community hospitals.

At a recent full Council meeting, members made passionate calls to protect services across the district. Councillors heard that these hospitals aren’t “optional extras” - they are essential lifelines, particularly in a rural area like the Cotswold district.

Following the debate, leader Cllr Mike Evemy has written to NHS leaders seeking assurances about the future of community hospitals and rural healthcare across the Cotswolds.

Without local services, many residents - especially older and vulnerable people - could face long and exhausting journeys just to access care. And with an ageing population and potential housing growth, demand for accessible, local services is only set to increase.

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson said: “They are not just buildings on a map… they are absolute gems at the heart of our communities.”

In 2024 more than £11m was lost by British travellers to fraud. The average loss per victim was £1,844.💷

‘Smart luggage’ is promoted as a traveller’s best friend with GPS locators, digital locks and even motorised wheels. Make these purchases wisely as some fraudsters sell fake smart luggage at low prices. These counterfeit items may have issues such as the bags don’t charge, don’t track or may even contain hidden spyware that steals data when plugged into a device!

Scammers can also intercept Bluetooth or Wi-Fi signals from smart luggage, allowing them to follow and then intercept the luggage when it is unattended.

Buy smart luggage from reputable sellers with positive verifiable feedback.

Unburied treasure comes to Cirencester! ⭐

The Corinium Museum has secured a hugely significant Iron Age hoard of over 160 silver coins — alongside rare miniature shields and spearheads used as ritual offerings.

Discovered locally and dating back to the late 1st century BC, this remarkable find offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives, beliefs and artistry of the Dobunni tribe at the beginning of Roman Britain.

This is the first Iron Age hoard in the museum’s collection.
