This week saw 6 members of the RLC compete at the Armed Forces Parachute Championships at Netheravon. The team, a mixture of Regular and Reserve, officers and soldiers competed in formation skydiving (FS), accuracy, speed and Vertical Formation Skydiving (VFS).

Members of 162 Regiment RLC recently deployed on their Annual Continuation Training, Ex KRONOS HUNTER 2 in Episkopi, Cyprus.

Capt Amii Calway, a long-serving member of the RLC Sports Parachute Association transferred to the Army Reserve from the Regular Army in 2022; this is her second Cyprus deployment with the unit.

During the 2-week deployment Amii took part in an ITR package, officer education, cultural and historical visits, inter-regimental sport, helped to run SA80 and pistol ranges, and supported the 3 day FTX.

Are you ranked Pte-Cpl?

Fancy something a little different from your day job?

Ever considered learning to skydive?

We might have just the thing!

The details:

A fantastic opportunity for Pte – Cpl* to be attached to Army Adventurous Training Air Wing (AATAW) Netheravon for 12 months from mid-Oct on TEE basis. No prior parachuting experience is necessary. AATAW are fully committed to investing in their TEE staff who will complete an Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Course (civ cost over £2000) and receive a civilian qualification. TEE staff will generally complete between 150 – 200 freefall parachute descents (civ cost approx £5000) and if they work hard and are keen to progress, may also be loaded on a Basic Instructor’s Course. On completion of this course, they receive a civilian qualification and would RTU as a qualified parachute instructor.

In return the Wing will ensure that the individuals are well managed, maintaining close liaison with respective CoCs, and inviting key individuals to Netheravon to see the individuals at work and, weather permitting, to tandem jump with them. AATAW will also prioritise units that provide TEE for course places.

*Sgts will also be accepted on the understanding that they will be considered ‘junior staff’ working alongside JNCOs.
