The Raleigh Drive appeal has been dismissed!
Positive news just before the bank holiday weekend.
The development proposed was an outline planning application for up to 60 dwellings and associated landscaping and open space with access from Raleigh Drive.
The main issue was that the site was in the green belt.
Although previously developed land in the form of a tennis court and bowling Green among other things, most of the land was not previously developed land.
The inspector recognised that the proposal would result in benefits i.e. 60 dwellings, but it was harmful to the greenbelt and should not be approved excepting very special circumstances. The totality of Greenbelt attracts substantial weight. In his judgement, the benefits did not clearly outweigh the harm, (just tipping the balance would not be enough) for very special circumstances to exist.
