Jill Windmill - Paint Project - 2026

We will be giving this iconic landmark a fresh coat of paint from mid-April — and we need your help!

- No experience necessary
- All enthusiasm welcome
- Be part of preserving local history

Whether you can spare a few hours on one Saturday or every Saturday, your support will make a difference in helping to preserve Jill Windmill for our visitors to enjoy!

Sweeps turning and signs of Spring beginning to show!

Jill Windmill is currently not open to visitors.

From mid-April 2026, Jill Windmill will be closed to visitors for around ten weeks for a major refurbishment project. Public Open Days (which are usually held on Sunday afternoons from May to September) are expected to recommence in July.

It seems futile to keep plans under wraps when the building itself is under wraps. As work progresses, we owe it to the many that have contributed elbow - and actual - grease to Jack over the years to share their stories here.

- JACK WINDMILL UPDATE -
From the owners of Jack and Duncton.

As we move into 2026, restoration work on Jack and Duncton is beginning to take shape. While work on the cap is underway in the Netherlands, visible progress can be seen on Jack’s tower and the remains of Duncton’s roundhouse, where scaffolding is now in place. The next phase will focus on removing the cladding and securing cracks in the render, with this stage continuing through to spring.

Thank you to everybody who visited us today for our annual Christmas Opening event! Despite the cold, we were able to have the Sweeps turning for the duration, with the addition of bunting!

With the autumn months closing in, the team at Jill Windmill took the opportunity of windless and dry weather to remove the windboards and inspect the bolts / clamps on all four Sweeps!
