Jack & Jill Windmills Jill Windmill, a 19th century windmill in the South Downs National Park, restored to working order Our Society’s volunteers maintain and repair Jill Windmill.

Built in Brighton in 1821, Jill was moved to Clayton in 1852, commercial milling ceased in 1906. She is now in working order and occasionally produces stoneground wholemeal flour. Jill is open to visitors on most Sunday afternoons from May to September between 2 pm and 5 pm. Further details and information are on our website.

After three months of extensive refurbishment, Jill Windmill has been repainted thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers!

Work commenced on Saturday 2nd May with the mill's exterior being scraped and washed down before pink and yellow undercoats were applied. The mill was then repainted in its traditional white finish and completed with a gloss topcoat.

The final touches of paint were applied on Saturday 4th July, with scaffolding removed the following week. On 18th July, the Fantail was released to the wind, and by that afternoon the Sweeps were once again turning under wind power, marking the successful completion of the project.

Jill Windmill is OPEN to visitors from 2pm - 5pm on Sunday 2nd August, and then subsequent Sunday afternoons until the end of September.
