We hope all of our pupils, families and staff have had a wonderful, restful summer break. ☀️🌼

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting school year, and we'd like to give a very special welcome to our new Year 7 pupils! 🎉📚

We can't wait to meet you and help you begin your journey with us. On your first day, Thursday 3rd September, Year 7 pupils can head straight to the school hall, where your Year Leader and Form Tutors will be there to meet you and help you get settled. They'll make sure you know where you need to be and are ready for your first day with us. 💙

And to all our Year 8–11 pupils, we can't wait to see you too! 👋 We are looking forward to welcoming you back and helping everyone get settled into the new school year. We hope you're feeling refreshed and ready for another great year!

📱 Mobile Phone Expectations – September

As we prepare to welcome pupils back in September, we would like to remind families of our updated mobile phone expectations, which are in line with current government guidance for schools.

During the school day, mobile phones must not be seen, heard or accessed. This applies throughout the school day, including lessons, break times and unstructured social periods.

If a pupil is found with an unauthorised phone:

📵 Confiscation: The device will be taken immediately by a member of staff. Failure to hand over the device will result in a further consequence.
🔒 Secure storage: The phone will be safely locked away for the remainder of the school day.
🕒 Pupils can collect confiscated phones at the end of the school day from pupil services, following this - a 30 minute detention will be issued.
🩺 Medical exemptions
We recognise that some pupils need to use a mobile phone or smart device to monitor a medical condition, such as a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for diabetes.

Authorised pupils will be permitted to access their device strictly for medical monitoring purposes. These pupils will have a medical exemption card, and the exemption will be recorded on Arbor.

If your child requires a medical exemption, please contact the school before September so that this can be recorded on our system.

Medical devices must not be used for social media, messaging or any other non-medical purpose during the school day.

🚌 Travelling to and from school
We understand that some pupils travelling by bus may need their phone to access or show their bus pass.

If a pupil brings a phone onto the school site and does not have a medical exemption, it must be:

Completely switched off.
Kept securely inside their school bag.
Stored in their school bag from the moment they enter the school gates until they leave at the end of the school day.
Phones must not be kept in blazer or trouser pockets.

Thank you to all our pupils, parents and carers for supporting these expectations. Our aim is to create a focused, safe and positive environment where pupils can learn and socialise without the distraction of mobile phones.

GCSE Results Day

We would like to wish all of our Year 11 pupils the very best of luck as they receive their GCSE results next week.

Pupils are invited to come into school from 9:00am on Thursday 20th August to collect their results.

Our staff will be available to celebrate your achievements, offer guidance and provide support with your next steps, including further education, training and career pathways.

☀️ Open Water Safety 🌊

As we all hope for plenty of sunshine over the summer holidays ☀️, please remember the dangers of swimming in open or unknown water. ⚠️

While it may be tempting to cool off with a swim 🏊, open water can be extremely dangerous. Even on a warm day, the risks are often hidden.

🌡️ The water is usually much colder than it appears, even during hot weather.

🥶 Sudden immersion can cause cold water shock, making it difficult to breathe or swim.

🌊 Currents can be much stronger than they look.

🪨 Hidden hazards beneath the surface, such as rocks, debris and sudden changes in depth, can cause serious injury.

🚨 If you see someone in difficulty in the water:

📞 Call 999 immediately.

🗣️ Encourage them to stay calm and avoid panicking.

⭐ If they cannot stand, encourage them to float on their back in a starfish shape until help arrives.

Please help us keep our young people safe by talking to them about the dangers of open water. A simple conversation could save a life.

This was our first year as a school member of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), who support amateur and youth theatre across the UK through reviews, awards and encouragement.

Our journey into the woods may have started with wishes, but it ended with something much more magical!
