Today, we were proud to host the annual service and wreath‑laying ceremony in memory of those who lost their lives when HMT Lancastria was sunk off the coast of St Nazaire, France, on 17 June 1940.

The Lancastria was built at the Beardmore shipyard, on the site where the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital now stands. We are honoured to be home to the Lancastria Memorial and to host this important annual event.

This year, Lancastria families and representatives from NHS Golden Jubilee were joined by the Lord Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, Jill Young MBE, young people from the Clydebank Sea Cadets, and Reverend Dr Karen K Campbell, National Chaplain for The Royal British Legion Scotland, who delivered the welcome and opening words.

We remain committed to honouring their memory and ensuring their legacy is never forgotten.
