🚨 Coalville deserves proper banking access 🚨

Following the announced closure of Lloyds Bank, many residents, especially older and vulnerable people who rely on counter services, are understandably worried. North West Leicestershire’s largest town must not be left without proper access to cash and banking services.

I’m already acting. I’m challenging the current assessment with LINK and secured a meeting to press the case for a Banking Hub in Coalville, just as has been done successfully in Ashby with their hub set to open later this year.

✍️ My petition, which has already had hundreds of signatures, is building momentum and showing the strength of local feeling. Please sign and share to help us make the strongest possible case.

This is about standing up for Coalville and working together, across parties and across our community, to protect vital local services.

I’ve written to Cllr Smith regarding his comments on social media about the closure of the Lloyds branch in Coalville and my petition for a Banking Hub.

Even trees get old and Lombardy Poplars are a sadly short-lived species 😢.
Labour Councillors have asked for the new planting to be more sustainable.
We don’t plant trees for ourselves. We plant them for our great grandchildren…

A row of Lombardy poplar trees next to our former council offices on Whitwick Road, Coalville, will be felled following a recent survey showing significant decline and safety risks.

The trees are 45-55 years old and showing signs of dieback, crown deterioration and mainstem failure. While reducing their height could extend their life slightly (by 10-15 years), it wouldn’t remove the risk.

Tree planting will be a key part of early plans for Stenson Gardens, a new development around the historic Stenson House.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Property and Customer Services at NWLDC, said: “These trees have served the area well, but they’re now in decline.

“With the regeneration planned for this part of Coalville, it makes sense to remove the trees at this stage. We’re already looking ahead to how we make sure we have significant tree planting in the Stenson Gardens development, as part of this next important regeneration step for Coalville.”

Labour will end the injustice of the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme.

I know how much this matters to our coalfield communities, including in Doncaster North.

Our manifesto includes a commitment to transfer the Investment Reserve Fund back to members to raise the pensions of retired miners and we will review the unfair surplus arrangements.

We owe our mining communities a huge debt. A Labour government will ensure the mineworkers who powered our country receive a fairer pension.
