👕School Uniform Swap Shops in your community 👕

As families prepare for the new school year, a number of independently run School Uniform Swap Shops are taking place across our communities.

These are located at:

📍 Ibstock Co-op, Ashby Road
📍 Castle Donington Hub, Bondgate
📍 Inspire Youth Collective – Ashby, Market Street

Please note that these swap shops are organised and operated by local community groups and venues and are not run by the council. We are simply helping to raise awareness of the fantastic support they provide for local families.

Uniform swap shops are a great way to save money, reduce waste and give good quality uniform a second life. If you're donating or swapping items, please make sure they are:

✅ Clean
✅ In good condition
✅ Ready to be used by another family.

Also if you are thinking about setting one up, the council can provide rails, coat hangers, small boxes.

Update on Whitwick Cemetery

Next week, on Wednesday 26 August, we’ll be carrying out emergency work to remove a large lime tree near the cemetery access road following a detailed inspection by our tree team.

The tree has been found to be extensively affected by Ganoderma, a type of fungus that weakens the tree from the inside and significantly increases the risk of it failing during poor weather.

The work is expected to take up to two days to complete. During this time, the path next to the tree will be closed.

However, visitors can continue to access the cemetery via the separate pedestrian entrance from Church Road.

The risk of wildfires across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland remains very high.

Please do your bit to support our fire crews at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and protect the people and places you love from the threat of wildfires:

• Avoid starting any fires, including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators and fireworks
• Do not light bonfires or campfires
• Avoid using barbecues (even those which are non-disposable) unless in a safe, controlled location away from vegetation
• Dispose of ci******es and other smoking materials thoroughly
• Don’t leave rubbish in the countryside, or on or near grass or vegetation - this particularly applies to glass, which can magnify heat
• Take care in large gatherings to make sure activities do not heighten the risk of fires – even if attending organised events
• Seek advice before taking community action to reduce fire risk, such as creating ‘fire breaks’ – there’s a chance this may make the situation worse

Members of the public should remain vigilant at all times and report fires in the open as soon as possible by dialling 999 – never assume someone else has made the call.
