In the coming weeks communities across North West Leicestershire will come together to honour and remember the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.

• Saturday 24 October | Poppy Appeal launched by the Royal British Legion at the Memorial Clock Tower in Coalville

• Sunday 8 November | Remembrance Day Parade and Service in Coalville, including the two-minute silence and wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial Clock Tower

• Wednesday 11 November, 11am | Armistice Day Service at the Memorial Clock Tower in Coalville.

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped create more than 8,000 knitted and crocheted poppies for our displays at the clock tower and Coalville Library.

Special thanks to children from:

• Snarestone Primary School
• Woodstone Primary School
• Marlborough Day Nursery
• Forest Way School
• Griffydam Primary School.

Councillor Tony Gillard, the council’s Armed Forces Champion, said:

“Remembrance Day is a chance to stop and reflect on the sacrifices made by those we have lost, and to show our gratitude to members of our armed forces who are currently serving in conflicts across the globe.

“Our Coalville Remembrance parade is always very well support by the public, and I am sure we will see a great turnout again this year.

“I’d also like to offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated handmade poppies for our displays. The response has been incredible.”

ℹ Appeal for information ℹ

Our Environmental Protection Team is appealing for information following a fly-tipping incident on the bridle path leading from Ellistown Terrace Road, Ellistown towards Ibstock.

At this stage, the team is unsure exactly when the waste was deposited.

If anyone witnessed waste being dumped, saw anything suspicious, or has any information that could help identify those responsible, please get in touch.

Even a small piece of information could assist our enquiries.

Any information provided will be treated in confidence.

Consumers should have confidence that their food is safe and what it says it is. 🍽✅

The National Food Crime Unit has developed a fraud prevention tool to help food businesses. 🫶

If you are a food business, this online assessment tool could help you evaluate the risks to your business and provide suggestions to increase resilience.

The tool provides support, guidance and advice to food businesses on food fraud. It will help you to evaluate your business, may identify areas for improvement and gives advice for countering food fraud.

Our dog poo bag dispenser in Coalville Park is helping to keep the park cleaner, with clear evidence that dog walkers are making good use of the free bags provided.

The number of bags being found in dog waste bins across the park shows that visitors are using the bags responsibly and disposing of them correctly, helping to reduce dog fouling and keep the park enjoyable for everyone.

Councillor Michael Wyatt said: "We're really pleased with the success of the trial so far. The evidence shows that dog walkers are making use of the bags provided and disposing of them responsibly. It's a simple initiative that is helping to encourage responsible dog ownership and maintain the cleanliness of Coalville Park for all visitors to enjoy."

The success of the trial means we're now looking to expand the scheme beyond Coalville Park, with dispensers set to be introduced around the airport area in Castle Donington following agreement with East Midlands Airport.

A big thank you to the vast majority of dog owners who always clean up after their pets and help us keep our parks and open spaces clean.

Taking one simple action can help to reduce the impact of flooding.

This Flood Action Week, why not:

• Sign up for free flood alerts and warnings - and know where to find trusted information
• Check in with relatives and neighbours, especially anyone who may find it harder to cope in a flood
• Pack an emergency kit of essential items, like bottled water and a torch and batteries - and include your insurance documents

Remember never to enter flood water, either on foot or in a vehicle.
