Day 2

Group 1 stayed on site and did Stand-Up Paddleboarding and a High Ropes course. Everyone challenged themselves and achieved more than they thought at the start.

Group 2 went caving for the day. Everyone said they had a blast.

Group 3 went Gorge Walking. They walked through complete darkness of a disused railway tunnel and then spent time sliding into the river.

Crumble for dinner went down well.

Day 1 on residential

After the bus driver played an elaborate game of Tetris with the suitcases and sacrificing the whole of the back row to bags, we set off in the pouring rain. Luckily, and very weirdly as those fortunate enough to have visited Wales before will know, the sun came out as we crossed the border and it has been a cracking day weather wise.

As is tradition, we stopped at the services โ€“ which I am adamant is the highlight of the week for some of the children โ€“ and boy howdy did we eat! WHSmithsโ€™ owners will be pleased with the off-loading of a variety of terrible plastic toys and sheer volume of crisps and sweets purchased.

We arrived to sparkling sunshine and some heat! The children were disgusted to find the adult tents had real beds and a lounging area but they soon got over this โ€“ probably, as there was no way I was swapping anyway.

The children had their safety talk and unpackedโ€ฆtheir snacks as if they havenโ€™t been fed for weeks.

Then we set off on our first activity โ€“ a hill walk. You would have thought we were at Everest Base Camp with all of the moaning about the gradient, the sheep poo, the lack of wild horses, the nettles, the bracken, the water, the mud, their shoes, each other, Mr Evans, the inconveniently placed rocks on the path (nature how dare you!), the wind, the sheep again, the temperature, their failure to bring a jumper, the gradient again but this time downhill, where the buses were parked, why dinner was so far away (5:30pm!!!), why the hill was there anyway and why is the sun out!
However, as you can see from the pictures, it was totally worth it when we reached the lowest peak! This area sure is beautiful!

Dinner was sausages, mash and gravy (I would say and veg but you can probably guess why I left it out). Plates were licked clean โ€“ literally in some cases โ€“ before diving into a pudding of traditional rice pudding. All home cooked by Doris (63 years at Longtown and no signs of slowing or stopping โ€“ sheโ€™s a feeder that is for sure).

This evening we have been conducting some team challenges which has been some of the funniest teamwork I have ever witnessed. Parents of the boys I have Christmas sorted for you โ€“ a traffic cone! Not one single boy could possibly leave the cone alone during the team challenges even when the cone had nothing to do with the game.

๐ŸŒฟ Year 3 Forest School Fun ๐ŸŒฟ

This afternoon, our Year 3 pupils enjoyed another fantastic Forest School session! ๐ŸŒž

The children explored fossils through art, carefully practising their shading techniques to bring fossil shapes to lifeโ€”there were some truly incredible pieces of artwork on display! ๐ŸŽจโœจ

They also had the opportunity to get hands-on and creative by making their very own trace fossils, thinking about how animals and plants leave marks behind for us to discover millions of years later. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿชจ

This experience links beautifully with our recent science learning, helping to embed and deepen their understanding in a fun, practical way. A wonderful afternoon of creativity, curiosity and connection to nature! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿ‰ Today, some of our Year 6 pupils took part in a Tag Rugby Tournament organised by Northampton Saints Foundation and held at Old Northamptonians. ๐ŸŒŸ

The team played 6 games, winning 3๏ธโƒฃ, drawing 2๏ธโƒฃ, and losing just 1๏ธโƒฃ. Out of four teams in the group, they showed fantastic determination, resilience, and teamwork throughout the day. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘

Although we were unlucky not to qualify for the next stage, the children had a brilliant day and represented the school superbly. Most importantly, they demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, supported one another, and learned valuable lessons about teamwork and respect. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’š

Well done to all involved โ€“ weโ€™re very proud of you! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ†

Year 1 had an exciting visitor todayโ€ฆ a real pirate! โ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿฆœ
Pirate Bernie Blackbeard sailed in to answer all our questions about life on the high seas! ๐Ÿšข He docked his ship, The Black Buzzard, at Billing before quickly setting sail again after his visit. ๐ŸŒŠโš“

The children asked some fabulous questions, such as:
โ“ What happened to your hand?
โ“ Does your crocodile eat children? ๐ŸŠ
โ“ Where is your crew?

They all had an ARRRHHHmazing time! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธโœจ

A huge thank you to the Cogenhoe Parent Association (PTA) for our fantastic Year 6 leaversโ€™ hoodies, modelled brilliantly by our wonderful Year 6 students! ๐Ÿ’™

We canโ€™t quite believe this time has come around so quickly. It feels like only yesterday they were starting their journey with us, and weโ€™re certainly not quite prepared to see them go!

At least theyโ€™ll be well prepared for a British summer with these cosy hoodies! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Thank you, PTA, for helping create such a special keepsake for our Year 6 leavers as they get ready for their next adventure

What a busy and exciting day our Year 1 children have had! ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

We were lucky to welcome two special visitors who shared all about their holidays in Australia, filling our day with fascinating facts and stories. The children then took a virtual flight all the way to Australia and went on an animal hunt! โœˆ๏ธ

Along the way, we had great fun learning some Aussie lingo and getting creative by making beautiful fish collages to add to our seascapes, inspired by the work of Eric Carle ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ

To top it all off, we finished the day in true Australian style by toasting marshmallows on the 'barbie' and enjoying some delicious Tim Tams. Yum! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿซ

A fantastic day was had by all, well done, Year 1! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š

A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our recent Bag2School clothing collection โ€” together you helped raise an amazing ยฃ239 which will go towards our playground upgrade goal!

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Weโ€™re also incredibly grateful to local firm Wardle & Keach Removals and Storage for their kind support and contribution. Your generosity really makes a difference and is hugely appreciated. Thank you for helping us support our PTA charity.
