WTC COMMUNICATION WITH COLCHESTER NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE TEAM.
Following recent crime and vandalism incidents in Wivenhoe, we have been liaising with Colchester Police re: the lack of police presence here since the resignation of a dedicated Police Constable Support Officer (PCSO). On August 19th, Cllr David Smith and myself met up with Sgt Ben Knighton and PCSO Amy-Jayne Robinson from Colchester Community Policing Team. Sgt Knighton pointed out that despite recent incidents, the picture of crime in Wivenhoe is generally positive, with figures for reported crimes showing a slight decrease. He emphasised that anyone who is victim of any crime should report the matter ASAP to the police, and explained that all reported data is valuable for investigation.
It was discussed how the increased use of doorbell cameras and street WhatsApp groups have provided valuable evidence.
Going forward, PCSO Robinson, together with PCSOs Oscroft and Woolford will be covering Wivenhoe, along with other areas in Colchester, and PCSO Oscroft will attend the Community Day on September 5th.
NB. On TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8th at 10am, PCSO Robinson will be holding a LET’s TALK session (which have until now only been held in Colchester venues) outside Wivenhoe Library. This will be your chance to:
* raise concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour issues,
*ask questions about local policing, and
* get practical advice to keep your property safe. Future sessions will depend on take up and interest.

RECENT MAYORAL EVENTS
Saturday July 11th: I had much pleasure in presenting medals and replica World Cup prizes at the children’s football event: many thanks to Cllrs David Smith and Stephen Burke for the excellent organisation.
Sunday July 12th: I attended the Mayor of Colchester’s Civic Service at the Church of St Mary the Virgin at Layer Marney; many thanks to es**rt, Mark Norrington.
Saturday July 18th: WTC was delighted to officially open the Mede Way accessible playpark - special thanks for making this in this much anticipated project come into fruition must go to Cllr Jon Guy, Funding Officer Samantha Davey, Town Clerk Jo Beignton-Emms, and Estates Manager Andy Hearn.
Saturday July 31st: I enjoyed being at the Unveiling of the Statue of the Airborne Soldier at Colchester Garrison, many thanks to es**rt Michael Smither.
Tuesday 4th August: I enjoyed a fish and chip supper and chatting to members of the Wivenhoe Women's Institute, many thanks to Chair Morag Willis for the invitation.
Sunday 9th August: I was invited by Peter Hill to the Wivenhoe Society tea party and had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for £2,200 to Rev. Erwin Lammens for St Mary’s Church roof. This amount constituted 50% of the proceeds of this year’s Open Gardens event, with eleven other local charities receiving £200 each.
Sunday 16th August: on the invitation of Chair Brian Reed, I was delighted to present trophies to the winners for the multifarious varieties of exhibits at the Wivenhoe Show. Congratulations to all who showed their vegetables, flowers, cakes and art and crafts.
Monday 24th August: I joined other councillors at an interesting and enlightening lecture and guided tour of the Wivenhoe Barrier, organised and coordinated by Deputy Mayor Cllr Fiona Harmon.
