Today, the Regiment remembers Captain Alex Eida RHA.

Commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 2002, Alex completed his regular service with 7th Parachute Regiment RHA.

A professional and committed Airborne Gunner, he was respected for his leadership, moral courage, loyalty to his soldiers and unmistakable sense of humour. His character and example left a lasting impression on all of those who served alongside him.

Twenty years on, Alex remains an important part of the Regiment’s history and the wider Airborne Gunner family.

Today, our thoughts are with his family, friends and former comrades.

1 | DAY | REMAINS

On 27 June, serving soldiers and veterans will return to Merville Barracks for the 65th Regimental Reunion of 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery.

The day is an opportunity to catch up with old friends, remember those who are no longer with us, and reflect on the Regiment’s proud history. From Northern Ireland to Afghanistan, from parachuting to today’s Recce-Strike capability, every generation has played its part in shaping the Regiment we know today.

The Adi Powell Memorial Rugby Match against 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery will be at the heart of the reunion, recognising the close bond between our Regiments.

REUNION | THROWBACK | Pt.2

As the Regiment approaches the 65th Anniversary Reunion on 27 June 26, former members continue to send in photographs from across the history of 7 PARA RHA.

From parachuting and training in Aldershot, to exercises and overseas deployments in Belize, Canada and Australia, the photographs reflect the varied experiences shared by generations of Airborne Gunners over the last 65 years.

The Regiment will continue to share throwback photographs each week in the lead up to the reunion. Former members are encouraged to continue sending photographs and any background information into the inbox.

As preparations continue for the 65th Anniversary Reunion on 27 June 26, former members of the Regiment have been sending in photographs from across the Regiment’s history.

Spanning the 1960s through to recent operations, the images reflect generations of Airborne Gunners serving on operations, exercises, sport and high readiness tasks across the world.

In the lead up to the reunion, the Regiment will continue to share weekly throwback posts showcasing the history and people that have shaped 7 PARA RHA over the last 65 years.

SIXTY | FIVE

The countdown to the Regimental Reunion continues.

On Saturday 27 June 26, Merville Barracks will welcome serving soldiers & veterans of the Regiment for a day centred on regimental history, airborne ethos and the bonds built across generations of Airborne Gunners.

The reunion programme will include Battery displays, equipment stands, regimental heritage displays, catering and entertainment throughout the day, alongside the Regimental rugby fixture and addresses from the Commanding Officer.

With representatives from across F, G, H, I and N Batteries supporting the event, the reunion will showcase both the Regiment’s history and the soldiers who continue to maintain its high readiness role today.

1600–1830 – Food Service
1640 – CO’s Address
1700–2030 – Band and Entertainment

RECCE | STRIKE | GROUP

Exercise CYPHER ATHENA is a regimental activity designed to develop and refine the Recce Strike Group.

In simple terms, Recce Strike is about finding targets at range, hitting them quickly and accurately to create an unfair fight for any adversary. The aim is to reduce the time between spotting a threat and dealing with it, using the best available tools.

Ex CA26 develops this capability further through integration in training the whole system with Elbit Systems UK, linking JFST, IIDFS and ICAVSD. This improves how regiment train as a complete unit with integrated cells from across 16 Brigade.

The exercise also brings together personnel from across the 1XX Fires community, including 4th Regiment Royal Artillery and 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, strengthening how different units work together.

AIR | MANOEUVRE | FIRES

Air Manoeuvre enables combat power to be projected rapidly by air, placing troops, equipment and effects where they are required at speed. For the Royal Artillery, this requires the ability to move, land, establish command and control, and deliver accurate fires in support of the ground force.

This was demonstrated by G Battery, deploying from Merville Barracks to Wattisham Airfield within 24 hours as part of a readiness activation. On arrival, the Battery moved into preparation and rehearsals, including the use of mock trainers at Woodbridge, ensuring each element was ready for the final tactical phase.

The exercise concluded with the deployment of a Recce, Command Post and Gun by Rapid Air Landing onto Sculthorpe Airfield by night. Once on the ground, the detachment moved immediately into a fire mission, demonstrating the speed, discipline and integration required to support Air Manoeuvre.
