🍎🌳 A fantastic afternoon at the 'Wonderful Woods' Tree and Orchard event at Wepre Park on Sunday! Cllr Vince Roberts and I joined families enjoying the sunshine and some brilliant hands-on activities celebrating our woodlands and the people who care for them.

The Friends of Wepre Park’s mechanical apple crusher and press was brilliant! All the apples were donated windfalls from local orchards, and everyone could have a go before sampling the freshly pressed juice. Naturally, we tried both parts of the process - absolutely delicious! 🍏

There was plenty to discover, too, from Flintshire County Council’s biodiversity team sharing information about our local woodland wildlife, to conversations about the need to protect our trees and plant more for the future.

Flintshire’s local Forestry Officer demonstrated different wood grains and worked his lathe to create free tea light holders, showing children how to finish and care for the wood with beeswax. His colleague’s fascinating fungi display explored the varieties found in the park and the part they play in its ecosystem. 🍄

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day so welcoming, interesting and enjoyable. Wepre Park is a treasured part of South ward, and supporting the groups who put so much into it is something I’m passionate about.

I also came away with a new contact to explore opportunities for more local tree planting - hopefully something positive to build on! 🌱

The toilets in our main Visitor Centre at Wepre Park are having some vital works completed, they will therefore be closed to the public. However we do have the Pavillion toilets available instead. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to have them open again as soon as possible.

Cllr Vince Roberts and I were pleased to attend Sunday’s International Day of Older People celebration at the Civic Hall, representing Connah’s Quay Old People’s Association. 😊

Organised by Flintshire 50+ Action Group, this annual event was very well attended, bringing together a wide range of organisations supporting older residents across Flintshire. These included local micro-carers, NEWCIS, North Wales Police, Outside Lives, Deeside History Society and many more not to mention the fab entertainment by Dave Lawton.

It was a great opportunity to chat, make connections and learn more about the support available locally, while celebrating the valuable contribution older people make to our communities and recognising the challenges they can face.

Thank you to Sandra Donoghue from FCC, the 50+ Action Group and everyone involved in organising and supporting such a welcoming community event. 💙

Well done Grace, good luck 🤞
